Billy G is Overrated!

yeah no other team in the past couple of years has done anything to legitimize the SEC. Winning the conf is winning the conf no matter what state UK is in.

Are you seriously going to say to me, that if you go anywhere in this country, tell someone to name the first team that comes to mind in college BB from every conference, 9 out of 10 people won't say Kentucky with the SEC? If so, see the other thread you commented on and take the same action.

Yes, other teams accomplish things, but winning the conference when UK stinks would be nothing close to what it would be if UK was their usual self.

there is no debate that winning the conf. is diminished this season. UK and UF are both weak.
Disagree. Conference titles are conference titles. Are all of Kentucky's titles in the '40s and '50s diminished because nobody else in the SEC took basketball seriously?

they are diminished IMO. they have the same intrinsic value, but it isn't like we're going to win a mid 90s ACC title. it's great for our program, but it would help our natl rep if we bested some good teams.

depends on age. Same would happen it you talk about SEC football.

Don't get me wrong Hat, if we win it, I'll be thrilled. But comparing their titles BEFORE bball took off as a legit sport EVERYWHERE and now when UK has all these years of tradition just isn't the same. Back then, noone had been established as a powerhouse, of course that isn't the case now.

Anyone who doesn't admit UK is the most recognizable program in the SEC isn't worth asking. No, a 17 year old kid may not say UK, but then again, a 17 year old's opinion is as valuable to me as the toilet paper I flush after relieving myself.

most recognizable does not mean best. Any CBB watcher would know UK is struggling lately and not base their opinion of the SEC on them.

we'll all be happy, but the postseason tourneys diminish the conference title in basketball, especially relative to football.

I didn't say the best. Nowhere, anywhere, did I say the best.

I said if you walk up to Joe Blow on the street in Eugene, Oregon, and you say:

"Sir, I'll say a conference, you tell me the first team that comes to mind. SEC"

That guy will say "Kentucky". Not b/c they are the "best", but b/c they are the most notable.

17 year olds don't have viable opinions. that's impressive. any other biases you wanna just go ahead and get out there now?

when your generation dies off, the 17 year olds will be the average person. So go relieve yourself with that little tidbit

he would say Florida.

Those of us who are in the know about the SEC, and have a sense of history, recognize Kentucky's tradition. But, considering how Florida just won back-to-back national titles in basketball I wouldn't be shocked if your average fan mentioned them over Kentucky.

What if Joe Blow was 17? :yikes:

What if the guy you ask is actually Milo? He still gonna say UK?

no use for them. fair enough. any other groups' opinions that you have no use for?

As a generalization? Yes. Women. Yes, some have something to add, but I find that talking sports with most is like discussing physics with me, I know nothing more than common knowledge on the subject.

yeah. there's no use including old people's opinions because everyone knows they are never willing to give the younger kids credit for anything.

I could find you a couple women that could tell you that Florida is the face of the SEC in basketball right now and not Kentucky. Thus more knowledgeable than you.
