If people learned to listen you would they would have understood that it was never going directly to BLM.
TN vs Garner lays out the expectation for what "could happen" to others from a fleeing felonThat is exactly the rationalization LG offered. All the things you listed are acts committed; not acts which may be committed. My stance has nothing to do with justification of the officers shooting the man. My stance has everything to do with the concept that LEOs can be justified in taking measures because it prevents another crime/loss of life, etc.
I don't ever expect to get a ticket for running a stop sign and then have the officer cite me for 'looking like I am going to speed later today'.
He literally did say BLM charity. I thought to myself, I wonder what those are, went to their website and there were tons listed. 2 seconds of effort.Eh, the reporting on the story was vague, and the transcript didn't make it clear at all. If someone says "I'm going to donate to the Black Lives Matter movement," that is easily interpreted as donating to the party itself, especially if it's written as Black Lives Matter with full capitalization as it implies a formal entity. If I read that in a vacuum I would assume it means the party.
But most importantly, I'm glad they clarified and I'm hopeful we can move on to unite in hating something external, like Alabama or Al Matthews or Butch Jones.
From the BLM website:
"#BlackLivesMatter was founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer. Black Lives Matter Foundation, Inc is a global organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes. By combating and countering acts of violence, creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy, we are winning immediate improvements in our lives."
Sorry, I do not see any anti-American, anti-Western or pro-Marxist sentiment in that defining statement.
It’s one of the weirdest knee jerk reactions I’ve ever seen.Oh come on. Seriously? Tee Martin just explicitly stated on the radio what you all desperately wanted to hear---that the money is going local and not to BLM---and your reaction is "We'll see"? Do you all just think Pruitt and Tee are trying to pull a fast one on the fanbase? Good lord....
Great. So sort of half assed black jerseys again. I think it’s a good gesture by the program for community outreach and doing something positive. They literally decided to do this a week ago.
It's too late for the Nike design/manufacturing cycle so they will be manufactured by a third party and will have the Nike logo applied. I know the local company that did the black jerseys last time around does some work for Nike, so it's quite possible they will do them again. Although with a much longer lead time they will more closely resemble the usual jerseys.
For the record, I still think the number font is awful and it does, in my opinion, still resemble the font Syracuse had at the time. They made changes to it after the version I commented on here, and I made later posts reflecting that. But sure, live in a world where information never changes.
IMO It would be a lot cooler to show our support by honoring Condredge Holloway as the first black quarterback in SEC history by wearing a throwback from his era, like the ones worn vs UNLV in ‘04. This not only highlights that Tennessee has been at the forefront of progress for black athletes in the Southeastern Conference, but shows what a great person he is and how he remains valuable to Tennessee off the field to this day. We could sell Nike retro collection sideline gear where a substantial amount of the proceeds could go to whichever local charity or group the University and Nike agreed upon, including the auctioning of the jerseys. I think it’s a win win .
