Bob Kesling Retiring

"Bill Pressling is retiring after 16 or 20 years of calling the state of Tennessee's Football contests. "

If Bumbling Bob has wrote his own headline with how inaccurate he normally is.

Bob was behind the 8 ball the day he sat down behind the mic. No one could follow the iconic John Ward and be considered a success. Seems like a great person who loved UT sports. Wish him nothing but the best in his retirement. Go do what you like Bob………..you have earned it through hard work, dedication, and commitment to your craft. Ride off into that behind the mic sunset!

I don't believe in my lifetime I will ever hear an announcer as good as John Ward again. I will never be completely satisfied with anyone else I don't think. I hope we can find a diamond in the rough somewhere to bring that kind of life back to the game.

Does he do anything now for us?
I dont think he is with UT but is back in Knox and his son plays for Bearden (I think)... he does the early morning show with Wilkerson occasionally is when I have listened to KS

What was Kesling's most memorable call? Did he even have one besides "what a turn of events!", which wasn't a great one?

I can't think of any, which is kind of sad since he was the Voice for 25 years.

I think Bob and Tim had an exact opposite presentation than Ward and Anderson. While Anderson was technically the color guy, Ward was the showman. Bob called the plays and let Tim bring the color to the broadcast. Tim had some pretty good one-liners from time to time "gitcha some of that Jaylen Tabor"

Really, over the last 25 years these guys didn't have a lot of opportunities to make memorable calls. There was one 11 year stretch we only qualified for a bowl game 5 times.

I would like to see someone like Kevin Simon... he knows it and has a great voice
No kidding? I’ve not heard Kevin. Is he in broadcasting? Would love a good VFL like Simon to get the gig.

Nm. Just saw your reply to another poster.

Never understood the hatred for Bob. He is one of he nicest guys and truly loves the Vols. Did he call games with the flare of Ward? No. But very few people in history could. The man is as gracious as they come and with all things being equal……he gave his all for the Vols each and every day for many many years.

Happy Retirement.
Absolutely no hate here, Bob lost his spunk over the years. Hardly shows emotion in his calls. Its been past time for him to retire.

Never understood the dislike of the man. True, he was no John Ward. But then again, NO ONE is John Ward.
Following a legend is always a thankless job. But I for one think Kesling did just fine. Thanks Mr K!
