Droski,

Sorry to have offended you, but it's how I feel. There HAVE been a lot of coaches who have taken bad teams to good levels. Schiano is starting to do the same thing. Snyder at KSU and Beamer at VT are older examples.

Can Tedford become great? Absolutely! Is he right now? I don't believe so.

Yeah, Rich Brooks isn't very good. Vol fans pre-2006 said he was awful, and when they miss a bowl in 2007, the opinions will go back to normal.

I never said he was spectacular or anything - but he is a good, solid coach.

clearly if he is a good solid coach he should have had better than a 40% winning percentage in the lowly pac-10? He should have dominated! Let's also not forget he didn't start winning until phil started writing million $$$ checks.

3 examples in 20 years and those guys are generally considered great coaches.

I'm at work, with a busy Friday morning - there are plenty of others. Jim Grobe won a conference title at an awful D-1 football school.

What Bill Snyder accomplished at Kansas State is roughly 1,977,899 times more impressive than anything Tedford has done at Cal.

Barry Alvarez at Wisconsin, Steve Spurrier at Duke, Dennis Erickson at Oregon State, Dennis Franchione at New Mexico, Howard Schnellenberger at Miami and Louisville, Bobby Bowden at Florida State, etc., etc. The entire list of coaches who have done more impressive turnaround jobs than Tedford would fill the Library of Congress.

David Cutcliffe at Ole Miss was similar to Tedford.

CUtcliffe wants another head coaching job, maybe Arky, Miss State? I know one thing, though, he is not a great coach, he is a great QB coach.

All these coaches would be considered some of the greatest coaches of our generation. Show me a mediocre or just "pretty good" coach that has turned around a program like tedford has.

Rich Brooks! The guy has ONE win over top-25 (and what 2 over top-50 opponents?) opponents in 3 years. And let's not forget that he was mediocre at best in the pac-10. Rich Brooks can't shine tedford's shoes.

Brooks won the Pac10 while at Oregon and played in the Rose Bowl. Now when was the last time Tedford... Oh Yeah he hasn't. No doubt Tedford has changed the face of California. Not a top 10 coach...sorry.

My Nick Saban and Mark Richt breakdowns of hatred were funnier than the Tedford. Actually, my Rickey Bustle hatred breakdown made me snort while I typed it. I amuse myself.

I see so a coach who didn't succeed at the pac-10, can go do nothing at kentucky, and get respect. Makes sense to me.

So by succeeding do you mean winning the PAC10 and going to the Rose Bowl?

Fulmer may be overrated, but at least his program isn't such trash that beating Texas A&M is a standout moment. Cal fans talking smack to UT fans is like France talking trash to Germany.

Hat, are you saying Iowa only wins 9-10 games when Ohio State and Michigan are off the schedule?

These coaches are better than Tedford:
In no particular order
Schiano
Weis
Ferentz

Those are the coaches better than Tedford right off the top of my head, I am sure there are more.

I either agree with your assertion that most of those coaches are better than or think that some are at least on par with Tedford. The three in bold, however, stump me. It is way too early in the game to start singing Schiano's praises, Weis will run Notre Dame into the ground before he is done, and Ferentz is just Terrible.

Weis will either take them somewhere or run them into the ground like you said. I haven't been able to make up my mind yet. I guess we will see in the next couple of months.

Even if ND goes 7-5, it doesn't mean anything in the long term success of Weis. Rebuilding year.
