Champ Bailey did this in the SEC in the late 90's, led his team in receiving and was an all SEC player on defense. There are others before Hunter too.
It can be done. Let him prove it. What's to lose?
A less secure secondary, a average player on both side of the ball. Split film study and practice time between two rooms will cause a less prepared player. Hunter did it but not in the current SEC.

I swear to all things holy I am totally at a loss as to why some of you aren't making serious money scouting and analyzing for college and NFL teams.
Majority of this board was screaming loudly for Harrison Bailey over Hooker after the 2021 Spring game. That’s why.

I wish he’d concentrate on catching punts.

I see alot of y'all saying pay him or give him what he wants...if he's not committed to UT then leave...if you start doing this for players they'll be a line of other players demanding the same thing or they're leaving...what do you do then? The players although it does seem like it now don't run the program, the more talented they are the more power they think they have and they do in the current state of CFB...you can't be a fan of any player on your team because they might be gone next season....sad
There is no real commitment now. Sorry that’s not how it works. It’s pay me or give me what I want if I am gone. Especially with good players. You either give them what they want or be happy with never being relevant at all.

Yes college football is a sad clown show now.

Film study and practice time would be cut in half. You want him to catch passes but allow more passes to be caught? Our DB's are just now starting to be able to cover, still no where near where we need them to be.

High school kids can rely on pure talent. It was easy for him to cover high schools because they were not D1 receivers. After what OSU just did to our secondary, are you sure you want to take players away from practice time?
What? Why couldn't he watch film on his own time? Kids do this now outside of "normal" film study. What's stopping him from putting in the work, putting in the effort in order to prove it. Just because you say it should be this way doesn't mean it is. I'm sure people told Travis Hunter the same thing. I know they told Champ Bailey the same thing because I remember him taking about it. Our receivers take routes off on many plays. If he's dynamic enough, good coaches will find a way. Let him prove himself

Agreed, need to learn your primary positions (star and PR) well before venturing out to offense. Next year he may well be ready.

Also, Boo hasn't had the benefit of of a RS season to beef up yet.
Would be interesting to see how many times he was beaten in coverage this year, how many times he was in the wrong place on run plays. He needs to be all american at one before trying to play 2.

I wouldn't be a very good coach in today's CFB 🤣🤣 not saying I'd be good before NIL but I definitely wouldn't now🤣

Doesnt matter if he does it on his own time or not. He still needs to watch twice as much film. This receivers dont watch film? If there is 20 hours per week of watching film, he would do 10 and 10 instead of 20 on one......perfect what you do now before you add more to the plate. In 1998, Champ Bailey was an All-American DB.

Players have always talked with the coaches about their role. Now there is just that extra threat due to the state of college sports being a zoo.

What makes you think he automatically becomes an average DB if he plays wide receiver? Didn’t seem to bother the aforementioned Champ Bailey. Nor did it affect Charles Woodson or Travis Hunter.
Champ Bailey and Charles Woodson were All-American Db's before playing on both sides. Boo is not an all american DB. Hunter played in a very weak conference

Wow. Using generational type players to boost your argument? Let’s be real. Boo isn’t in Woodson or Baileys stratosphere.

Pick up a more duties at work that take as much time as your current one, gotta stop doing one to do the other. think both will get done to the same standard?

That's right. In 1998 he was all American. However, he started playing on offense in 1996, his first season well before he was all American or all sec. He didn't make all SEC until his 2nd and made it in defense. It wasn't until his final year, 1998 jr year, that he balled out both ways. Why is that? Because he built up to it slowly. He proved that he could do it both ways. He started in 1996 getting some limited snaps on offense. 1997 he got more on offense until 1998 that he was in on every play. It CAN be done and you do not have to sacrifice any.
