Boo-hoo

I think that tents probably aren't that big of the deal. If you can still bring a grill and enjoy tailgating...then I think that not many people would have a problem. I guess it just sounded to me like they were preventing people from getting their grills out of their trucks.

I feel like the people complaining about the complaining are bigger whiner than anyone. These tailgaters are being affected by something they cannot control. Thus, they complain. Others are being affected by people posting on a message board. You don't have to read it. It's not like these guys are strapping you to a chair and making you listen to a 45 minute diatribe.

In what way are they being affected by something they cannot control?

Their tailgating is being affected. They have no control over those making these changes.

They are not allowed to tailgate somewhere else? As far as I can see the only thing they cannot do is put up a tent in the current place? This really seems intolerable...

Guess you did not read the news article. It stated clearly that is was okay to bring grills, chairs, coolers, as long as you remained in your space. Using up room outside of your space is against the regulations. So, the people that are being affected are essentially those who were using up more space than the paid for. And, you, support their cause...

They can tailgate somewhere else if they want, but they are going to have to pay for another spot. I'm not saying that these complainers are right or wrong, but I understand that their normal/traditional routine is being altered and they are not happy about it. Thus, they complain. I don't see why everyone has such a big problem with the complaints.

I think those complaining about those that are complaining about the ones complaining are the biggest...

 I think I just gave myself a stroke

They are complaining about their normal routine of taking up space they did not pay for being taken away from them. I feel that is a ridiculous complaint.

I never said I supported them. It's a free country and they have the right to complain or protest. All of a sudden this rule is enforced, and they don't like it. It makes sense. This doesn't affect me at all, so I really don't care that much, but I don't see what's wrong with them complaining. If the UTPD suddenly started cracking down on the alcohol on campus during gamedays, I would raise hell.

I have a problem with the complaints because they are trying to shed negative light on the university for doing essentially nothing other than enforcing policy. It is one thing to complain and state, "This sucks, however, the university has every right to do so," and a completely different matter to state, "The university has screwed me."

The people complaining about the lack of tents and use of more parking spaces than one paid for (these people also tried to inlcude grilling, which, as is shown by credible evidence is untrue), are in essence stating that they are entitled to more than they have agreed to, in contract with UT.

This makes sense. It seemed earlier that you were just complaining because the presence of complaints irritated you. I thought that seemed pretty hypocritical. Since you were actually upset about the insults thrown at the university, that is understandable. That wasn't clear to me earlier. Proceed.

I am sorry I failed to make that clear. When I got on this morning, every post I looked at basically had the underlying message of, "The University of Tennessee stole my weekend." It got very trite and tiresome, and I could not for the life of me find any substantial justification for anyones ire at UT. I was expecting to get on and read posts concerning the fact that we covered the spread for the first time in who knows how long. I was expecting posts which discussed the great work our team did on the field. Expecting some excitement heading into the Memphis game at the probability of being 4-1 so far, after going 5-6 last season.

I will gladly take some responsibility for the lack of these posts, as I did not start any of them. After reading enough posts about the band and the tailgating, I decided I really had no desire to talk football with anyone who was posting at the time, hence I created two threads in the Pub that basically make everyone who reads them just a little dumber (including myself.)

I don’t know, to me It looks like a lot of people are missing the point. From what I have read from Doc and others they are not so mad about losing the extra spots in which they could have extra room to tailgate. . It was the fact that last week 20+ cops were cruising through G-10 telling them they could not get out there grills, chairs, etc... Doc has said he understands the fact that they can not use more than one spot numerous times. I feel the problem is they telling people with grills and chairs are ok in news reports it is ok, but last Sat they had cops out telling people they could not have chairs, grills out of the vehicles. I don’t think anyone is whining. It’s the fact that they have paid a lot of money for these spots and they want what they paid for. Why would someone want to pay top money for a spot, to be later told that they cannot tailgate? The biggest problem seems to be the amount of outside people there were coming to this garage to party. The need to figure out a way to regulate this. I don’t see why people are complaining about people complaining that actually park in G-10. Like I have said before I do not park in G-10 so this is an outside opinion. I feel that if this was you in their situation you would be a little upset also. Maybe next year they can regulate and make the rules tougher. This is just bad timing to make all of these changes.

GO VOLS!!!!

For the last time, I never argued that I should be given more space than I am allotted, so quit misquoting me. The original article from the KNS is titled "UT to G-10 tailgaters: Pack up your tents, grills" (Hence, your "negatively-portrayed university"). This was the article in the paper and the message given by swarms of cops at the garage.

Leave that grill at home or put it in the grass

Beginning Saturday, officers will "strictly enforce" a prohibition against tents and grills in the parking area.

Unless you were there, which I am certain you were not (by the total lack of understanding about the actual state of affairs), how can you continue to argue?

Now, if you can give me one legitimate reason why I should not be able to get to the garage at 9 am, set up a shade behind and over the top of my SUV (in MY space), hook up my TV, and watch Gameday while grilling for my friends, I'm ready.

I'll go out on a limb here and say a few (tailgaters)probably messed it up for everyone.I know that while I was attending the Florida game, the cops escorted 6-8 people out for threatening to fight fellow UT fans even before the kick off.STUPID!

I think you are getting to the real issue. A few people ruining the fun for the rest.

The UT fans that got kicked out for trying to fight other UT fans should always half to wear turtlenecks to the game. The turtlenecks would cover up their rednecks!!

My 2 cents worth......As a poh boy Vol fan who can't afford season tix and reserved parking, I'm a little confused about all the name calling and brow-beating going on in this thread. Some of us are getting pretty nasty, implying somebody else is an elitist snob because they mentioned how much bread they laid out for a parking place and season tickets. Personally, I have to see the doc's points. If he shucked out a grand for the parking space and gets told on gameday he can't tailgate, I think he has a legit beef. This coming from somebody who thinks doctors are grossly overpaid.
As for the game, since it has been said the game ticket only entitles you to see a football game, not the team running through the "T", why not just stay home and watch it on TV. Should we be expected to wear earplugs so we won't inadvertantly hear the band play "Rocky Top", keep our eyes entirely on the playing field and not look around, and sit calmly and quietly in our seats so we don't disturb anybody in our area, simply because the ticket doesn't specify that we're entitled to hear see and yell it?

Thanks for seeing my point. Now, as to the "grossly overpaid" part. . . . (remember, I'm in primary care) :)

Doc, I for one appreciate the time it takes for doctors to attend school, their willingness and desire to go further. As far as money goes, my neice will be doing her internship before too much longer and she will have a huge student loan to pay off plus she came form an average family and she did it ($) all on her own.I hope she makes tons of money!Tons!
