Boo-hoo

Doc, I for one appreciate the time it takes for doctors to attend school, their willingness and desire to go further. As far as money goes, my neice will be doing her internship before too much longer and she will have a huge student loan to pay off plus she came form an average family and she did it ($) all on her own.I hope she makes tons of money!Tons!

Congratulations on her success! If she hasn't chosen a specialty yet, I'd be happy to offer her any "words of wisdom" I can afford. Of course, I'm a Pediatrician, but I have friends in many other (and more lucrative) fields.

As to the money issue, if that's her goal, tell her to choose wisely. Unfortunately, insurance companies, the government, and the legal system have decided that we are not worth as much as the people who haphazardly sue us, executives of the companies that pay (or try not to pay) us, and (of course) athletes who leave school to play games that we can hardly afford to go see. Strange where our nation's priorites lie. Those who teach and those who care for our health are, IMO, among the most underpaid in our society.

Good luck to your niece, and let me know if I can help in any way.

KD

Thanks for seeing my point. Now, as to the "grossly overpaid" part. . . . (remember, I'm in primary care) :)
The ones making the big money are CEO's of drug companies and HMO's and Dr's look like the bad guys, but KD I think teachers are the most undercompensated professionals , but hey I'm biased, I'm married to one.:)

Agree 100%
Sorry missed the teach part and I too appreciate what you and your fellow primary care folks do. We just lost our pediatrician because of a bogus claim of malpractice (he got fed up and left town) he will be hard to replace.

Tell him if he want to move closer to K-town (and he's a Vol fan) to get in touch with me. We could use a partner!

My staff is already "encouraged" to wear orange scrubs or Tennessee gear every game-weekend Friday. Here are a couple shots of my first exam room:
