Boots, shoes and flip flops. Approved by OSHA or NCV67 but not both

Why are you doing this? The running. I mean, what's your main motivation? Losing weight, stress relief...? Whatever it is I'm sure you've lost some weight. How much?

Have I already asked you this? Lol.
It started as walking then walking faster then that wasn’t enough. I ran into a 70 year old in the neighborhood running at 10 minute pace. I decided I wanted to be in that kind of shape at 70 and it just took off. He also taught me how to run so I don’t hurt my knees, hips, ankles, ect. Now I just feel better.
I’m 196 pounds now. 275 at heaviest years ago.

I consistently log 113 calories burned per mile. Yours above is 132. I'm now curious if most of that difference is in the technology instruments we use or if it's the power walking and running? I'm sure it's both but I'd like to know how much.

I guess I'm interested because I'm thinking about switching to running. I'm not ready to commit to it yet because I really enjoy walking.

I think it’s whatever works for you. I’m a fan of both but I get a much (bigger, larger, more or whatever is the most accurate word) sweat from running. And I feel like I’m in better shape

Sometimes when I'm walking I want to take off running. I did one morning, and got discouraged. Lol.

I was in pretty bad cardiovascular shape, some couldn't be help but most could. When I started walking it took me 21 minutes to do a mile and I had to stop 5 times for 1 minute rests. ( I stopped the stop watch during those breaks). Lol yeah, seriously 😂.
I can do better but I consistently walk a 13:50 mile with a 126 bpm avg heart rate. That's really good for me at this point.

I’m ready to start running again. The conditions in South FLA in the summer are great for running. Heatstroke, dehydration and cramps.
It's amazing the difference between just my walking in July and December is, breathing wise. Like Slice, I get up every morning at 4:45 and stretch/lift weights and try to start my walk by 5. But those 90% plus humidity mornings are a bish man.

No doubt. I don't have to say I have a dinkydo belly anymore.

And with the lows now in the 80s, oof. When I run I have to worry about leg cramps in this humidity.

Weight input into the watch?

Heart rate, weight, and speed are all factors in calories burned. A heavier person will burn more calories. A less in shape person will burn more calories because they will have a faster heart rate. Your body also adjusts to the regularity of walking and it’s not as big of a workout. Ways to adjust that are longer distances, faster paces, or a different form of cardio (bike, swim, rower, etc).

I was surprised to see that my heart rate didn't appreciably increase when going uphill, despite greater effort. Faster paces on the flat did.

If I remember correctly it's your age minus 220 bpm and that is your max. If you have been walking for a long time then it would be good to max it out every so often. That should change your routine and burn more fat and build muscle.

I’ll only burn about 275 calories on a 2.5 mile run. But I’ll burn around 525 on a four mile walk. The extended amount of time on the walk makes a big difference too
