That's an awfully bold claim. You left it entirely unqualified, which makes it patently untrue. Here, I'll prove that:
- You didn't qualify it in time. Are you trying to say Bowers is a better college player than Jim Brown was? Hershel Walker? Bo Jackson? Tony Dorsett? Peyton Manning? Jim Thorpe? Barry Sanders?
- You didn't qualify it by tier. Are you saying Bowers is better than pros like Jason Witten?
- You didn't qualify it by conference or team. Do you believe Bowers is a better football player than Jalin Hyatt? Cedric Tillman? Princeton Fant? Marvin Harrison, Jr.?
- You didn't qualify it by position group. You think Bowers is a better player than Hendon Hooker? CJ Stroud? Bryce Young?
Let's pare it down to something I think would be more defendable:
At the narrowest, we can certainly say "Bowers is the best tight end on the Georgia roster in 2022." That seems completely fair, even sells him short.
From there, it becomes more debatable.
Is Bowers the best tight end in the SEC this year? Probably, but not for certain. In college football today? Perhaps.
Is Bowers the best tight end of all time at Georgia? Dunno, don't know enough about their program's history to say.
Is Bowers the best football player on the Georgia team? Maybe so.
And I think that's about as far as you can push it before people start really doubting what you're saying.
I'm positive he's not "the best player in all of football." He's not "the best player in all of
college football." He's not "the best player in all of college football
this year." He's not even "the best
receiver in all of college football" or even "the best receiver in the
SEC this year."
He's just not. He's a very good tight end. That's about it.
