Bowers is the best player in all of football

It hit the Florida CB in the helmet and he wasn't turned around if I remember correctly. Great tip drill yes, but that ball could've went in 100 directions and 99 of them wouldn't have been where Bowers could have caught it.

He's the best player in all of college football, but we do not have to keep him under 100 yards to win.

It's going to take more than 100 yards from Bowers for them to score enough points to keep up with us.

Slaughter doesn't bumble the ball like this Florida defender did. Slaughter catches it, reverses his momentum, and takes it to the house for a pick 6.

I appreciate Bowers' ability to snag an errant ball before it hits the ground, but it's still a little like Mark Farner of Grand Funk hitting an E chord on the guitar and holding it up for the crowd to cheer as if he'd just played the Stairway to Heaven solo with one hand.

He needs better than this to lay claim to best player in all of football. :)

Go Vols!

He’s not even close to the best player in football. He’s not even the best player in the SEC East.
People clearly define "best player" in different ways. He may play his position better than anyone else plays their position, so he may be the best player. Hendon Hooker also plays his position extremely well, as does Hyatt.

Is Bowers putting up huge stats? Of course not, he's a TE. But he plays that position better than anyone I’ve seen.

He's a really good player and easily UGA's best weapon on offense, but he's not the best player in college football. Remember that we have a pretty good player on offense who happens to be the odds on favorite for the Heisman. Even if Bowers gets his stats tomorrow, which he probably will, I'll hedge my bets on Hendon and the offense getting it done when it matters.

Yep, a S or DB in coverage and that's probably going the other way. But not bad defense for a LB, too bad it bounced off his helmet.

Got to keep him under 100 yards to win

He mostly reminds me of George Kittle and Jeremy Shockey.

That is why the Volunteers defense need to contain him because the Volunteers aren’t likely to win if Bowers has over 100 yards in what likely could be a close game.

Let Bowers get his - who cares if he has 200 yards and 2 TDS - not enough to keep up. That will be their only offense with some running mixed in - 150 yards and 2 TDs.

that's 28 points.

Good luck keeping us under 40.

Personally I’d rather Slaughter break on a pass and put him ass over shoulders to set the tone for the day.

That's an awfully bold claim. You left it entirely unqualified, which makes it patently untrue. Here, I'll prove that:
  • You didn't qualify it in time. Are you trying to say Bowers is a better college player than Jim Brown was? Hershel Walker? Bo Jackson? Tony Dorsett? Peyton Manning? Jim Thorpe? Barry Sanders?
  • You didn't qualify it by tier. Are you saying Bowers is better than pros like Jason Witten?
  • You didn't qualify it by conference or team. Do you believe Bowers is a better football player than Jalin Hyatt? Cedric Tillman? Princeton Fant? Marvin Harrison, Jr.?
  • You didn't qualify it by position group. You think Bowers is a better player than Hendon Hooker? CJ Stroud? Bryce Young?
Let's pare it down to something I think would be more defendable:

At the narrowest, we can certainly say "Bowers is the best tight end on the Georgia roster in 2022." That seems completely fair, even sells him short.

From there, it becomes more debatable.

Is Bowers the best tight end in the SEC this year? Probably, but not for certain. In college football today? Perhaps.
Is Bowers the best tight end of all time at Georgia? Dunno, don't know enough about their program's history to say.
Is Bowers the best football player on the Georgia team? Maybe so.

And I think that's about as far as you can push it before people start really doubting what you're saying.

I'm positive he's not "the best player in all of football." He's not "the best player in all of college football." He's not "the best player in all of college football this year." He's not even "the best receiver in all of college football" or even "the best receiver in the SEC this year."

He's just not. He's a very good tight end. That's about it.

Go Vols!
The best player 'IN' football wouldn't include players out of football. He's not even gonna be the 5th best player on the field this Saturday though.

Best in all of college football? Nah. In fact, he's not even the best TE in College Football according to stats. Utah's Tight End Kincaid has nearly 700 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns.
