Bowl Game question… (Hyatt sitting out?)

Sorry, but if anyone sits out, I’d take huge offense to it. Besides Hyatt, because he’s a first round pick. I would not be happy, but I would understand. But if we play Clemson, I think he would play to get one last shot at a South Carolina school. This is the biggest bowl in over 20 years for UT since the ‘00 Fiesta Bowl. We need to win it at all costs for the fan base. I want my Orange Bowl champ t-shirt.

It is extremely unlikely that UT will have its full roster available for any bowl game other than a play-off game. Generation changing money is at stake and most high draft choice candidates cannot afford to accept the risk of injury in what is essentially an exhibition game. I don’t like it as a fan, but it is reality.
Completely agree. Unless some miracle and we play in CFP, any player that is considered a draft pick would be foolish to play and risk injury.

Sitting out bowl games is a common occurrence now. It wouldn’t shock me if we had a couple players sit out. I sure hope not though because we are gonna need everyone to beat Clemson.

Doug Matthews mentioned on Sunday’s show that he wouldn’t be surprised if a few “TN players sat out.” I assumed he was referring to Tillman.

With the exception of the playoffs, bowls don’t mean squat to anyone except the fans and the coaches. Coaches appreciate the additional practices and game experience for the younger players.

Glad I wasn't the first to post this, but it is stone cold reality. The season is over, and anything but the CFP is an exhibition at this point, important to the fan base but otherwise not the huge deal some are describing. The kid busted his ass and helped the Vols to their first 10-win season in ages, and in the process worked himself into a 1st round grade, which means serious guaranteed money.

Any fan who harbors ill feelings towards a kid who gave his all in a great season and played a big part in putting UT back on the map because he feels it's time to think about his future is incredibly short sighted. The kind of money involved now is far too great to roll the dice. Go ahead and flame away.
Too my knowledge no NIL is paying 1st round money and at this point the play offs are the main goal except for the lesser schools who a Bowl for them is like making the play offs

Bowls don’t matter is one of the dumbest things said on here. You are another one who just don’t get it.

Thanks to all the VOL players who end up sitting out the bowl game for a Fabulous Season. Appreciate your hard work and getting us to a NY6 bowl game. Don’t blame you for not playing and this is a great time for younger players to become the next great players at UT.
GOVOLS!!!!!

Good grief. How about you go ask the players and recruits if a NY6 bowl matters? So we have done something this year that we haven’t done since 2003 and now all of a sudden the great bowl game we get because of it doesn’t matter? You probably would be complaining if we were going to the music city bowl. My God some of you are dumb.

A NY6 bowl game matter ms BIG TIME! Why? It shows a significant step in the right direction of this program. Most of us had us pegged at 7-8 wins this year. Now we could potentially win 11. That’s HUGE. Not only for the mentality of this program but the perception. If we went to a lower bowl nobody would be thinking that much about us beijf relevant. But here we are staring at a great NY6 bowl and the college football world has taken notice.

A NY6 bowl also helps with recruiting. You think if we roll in to the orange bowl and beat Clemson that that’s juice no big deal? Get out of here with that crap.

Given the massive payouts of the Sugar or Orange Bowl (vs the Music City Bowl) the Vols could purchase "catastrophic injury insurance" for guys with high draft potential.

Statistically, the risk is very small of a terrible injury but the cost to the player would be high. One game insurance shouldn't be ridiculously expensive.

Hyatt will need to step his game up against pro DB’s if he is to be more than a serviceable nfl receiver.

Any player that is going to the NFL either drafted or free agent, should opt out. If an outgoing player wants to participate for sure let him, but it would do next year’s players good to get all the playing time.
Non playoff bowls are exhibitions. Like all the bowls back in the olden days.

I’ve got no beef with a player opting out and turning all their attention to pro days. I sure don’t have a problem with a guy playing and helping us win.

With players hitting the portal too, a team could lose 1/3 of its roster for the bowl game.

And forego the memory of playing in the Orange Bowl? Not the advice I’d give my son. Memories are more valuable than money, IMO.

The Orange Bowl or any Bowl will be anticlimactic compared to the LSU and Alabama wins.

I do agree that Memories are more valuable than money, but think of the Memories that can be made with a big chunk of NFL money.

Everyone just experienced what happened to HH. Travesty. That was a very negative impact on his earning potential. If Hyatt plays, great. I won't hold it against him if he did not. He took care of Tennessee. He has an opportunity to create generational wealth if he goes now. I wish him the best and thank him for giving us a GREAT season!
If he is going to declare for the draft and got to the NFL next year, him playing in the bowl is taking snaps from the guys that will be Vols next year. If he is stay, of course play in the bow and keep getting live snaps with Milton.

In the old days maybe but that ain’t the world we live in today. You’ll see plenty of it in games that don’t mean anything.

back in the OLD days lots of the guys didn’t play in the bowl games. The bowls didn’t mean much and the NC was already crowned. Many guys already left school, went to work, went home or whatever……and seriously didn’t play.

But we all know what you mean……back in the prime of “bowls.”

Let Squirrel and Keyton play!

Draft wire predicts him the 28th pick.
CBS sports says #16 or #26.
Walter Camp #28
1st round draft picks REALLY help recruiting.

In the 2022 draft, Treylon Burks was the last WR to go in the 1st round. He went #18 to the Titans. 4 years $14M guaranteed. Lewis Cine went #32 as a safety and got 4 years $11M, guaranteed.

The simple answer is catastrophic injury insurance. How much could it cost Spyre to get our prospects coverage for one game?
