Bowl Game question… (Hyatt sitting out?)

He’s fast and a good route runner but he’s not ready to play on sundays. He would benefit greatly with more size and another year imo.

Maybe but it’s a lot of risk. If he stays and gets injured it could cost him millions of dollars. If he can get drafted in the early rounds he should probably at least strongly consider going. I’d love to see him stay. It definitely be good for us but getting guys into the league is also good for us in the long term.

Tillman has a legit injury concern. But let me tell you in turns many scouts off with players that skip out just to skip. Especially if player is already viewed as lazy or has previous issues. Many scouts want to evaluate players especially in the playoffs and even New Years 6 games. I can see it if you have any type of injury issue or maybe a superstar playing in a minor bowl game. But too just sit out when your healthy in a big bowl games you should want to play and help your team win. Most true competitors will play in them situations. GBO

Yeah I can see leaving, but I don’t think skipping games while you are still here is the best look. People have been doing it for a long time now though, so who knows.

With the exception of the playoffs, bowls don’t mean squat to anyone except the fans and the coaches. Coaches appreciate the additional practices and game experience for the younger players.

This exactly.

Look out for number one. It's not my place to question a player's decision on what is best for him.

But it's not "look out for #1" in the selfish sense that some are seeing it as here. Hyatt clearly put the team first in playing such a huge role in resuscitating this program, but UT's season ended on Saturday in Nashville once it was clear we wouldn't be in the CFP. Bowl games other than the CFP are exhibitions that are valuable to coaches for the additional practices and for the fan base.

It is actually selfish of the fan base to expect a kid who busted his ass all season and in the process played himself into a position where he is about to come into life changing money to not be able to think of himself first at this point

No benefit to playing. NFL doesn’t care if he breaks a record. They have already seen what they need to see. He won’t show anything in one game that changes anyones mind. He could have 500 yds Rec and his draft grade may go up the smallest tick.

Bowls don’t matter is one of the dumbest things said on here. You are another one who just don’t get it.

Bowls mattered 30+ years ago, before the BCS, When we were kids and there wasn't the ridiculous number of bowls there are now where .500 teams are "bowl eligible" and any corporation who wanted to shell out $$$ to have their name on a bowl would get one.

When the big bowls were always at their traditional spots on the calendar, and the traditional matchups set (Rose = Big 10 vs. Pac 10, etc.), yes, the bowls mattered a lot and created some of the greatest moments in the sport, and one of them decided the national champion every year. Almost always on New Years Day, when as kids we would watch the bowls from 11am until whenever the Sugar Bowl ended at night.

In the last 25 years, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone outside of a hard core fan of a program to remember a single bowl result - it's all about the CFP now, and it was the BCS before that. I'm not saying it's a good thing, but to think otherwise is to be the one who doesn't get it.

Good grief. How about you go ask the players and recruits if a NY6 bowl matters? So we have done something this year that we haven’t done since 2003 and now all of a sudden the great bowl game we get because of it doesn’t matter? You probably would be complaining if we were going to the music city bowl. My God some of you are dumb.

A NY6 bowl game matter ms BIG TIME! Why? It shows a significant step in the right direction of this program. Most of us had us pegged at 7-8 wins this year. Now we could potentially win 11. That’s HUGE. Not only for the mentality of this program but the perception. If we went to a lower bowl nobody would be thinking that much about us beijf relevant. But here we are staring at a great NY6 bowl and the college football world has taken notice.

A NY6 bowl also helps with recruiting. You think if we roll in to the orange bowl and beat Clemson that that’s juice no big deal? Get out of here with that crap.

Not arguing with any of that, but to begrudge a kid about to come into life changing money, one who busted his rear end for the school and played an integral part in bringing this program back from the dead, for now putting his future first after putting the team first all season is the height of selfishness on any fan's part.

Oh, and I don't get caught up in what bowl we would be selected for, so no, I won't be 'complaining'. Whatever bowl it ends up being is a fun exhibition that I'll watch, but that is most important for the extra weeks of practices for the coaches.

Hyatt NOT a first round draft pick. It's stretching it if he goes second round. If he sits, then "Next Man Up" that wants to play and represent the Big Orange. GO VOLS.

Why in the wide world of sports would he not set. Unless someone buys him a LARGE insurance policy.
In this age of the portal crap, paying players, it is what it is............NFL Minor League

I do sort of find it funny Saban has been against an expansion in the past but this year he’s like “there are some 2 loss teams that deserve a chance”. I mean I agree but it is interesting how opinions evolve..

Edit: whoops, wrong thread

If you have a chance to play professionally and your college team isnt in the playoffs, you should opt out of bowl games.

I don't agree with "should opt out" but I don't begrudge any that do.

How could you not agree?

If you are working a dangerous job for minimum wage but have an opportunity to do the same work for 1.5 Million a year, why would you risk the damage to your body which might prevent you getting the other job?

Im a huge hyatt fan but I cant help but question how is game translates to the NFL. He dropped 2 passes for 1st downs against Missouri and 2 against SC. All 4 uncontested accross the middle. He seems to always go down as soon as 1 person gets a hand on him and most of his yardage came from a great scheme where he is running wide open down the field. Absolute great player and has been a huge bright spot for us but I just dont see how he would benefit or be on the level of " sitting out". I hope the best for him and pray he has a great NFL future. Lord knows he helped us turn this mess around.

I still have some old school in me and believe in finishing what you started so I don't think players should opt out. I don't hold it against the ones that do because as you pointed out they are looking at their future.

Nobody should be surprised if any of the draft-projected players sit. Unfortunately, it’s just the way it’s done these days.

Nobody in my opinion. This ain’t the music city bowl where Alontae Taylor sat out. This would be a huge stage that no one one this team ever came close to seeing. If and I mean if anyone does sit out it will only be Tillman other than him I see no one else.
UNC had about 5-10 guys opt out of the Orange Bowl a couple years back. That’s the biggest game in the history of their program. We’re gonna have guys opt out.
