I don’t understand Kansas being higher than Kentucky. Their records are basically the same, UK’s KenPom and NET are higher and UK disemboweled them on KU’s home floor.
Kansas has the #2 ranked resume on the team sheets

Win the SEC tournament and it feels like a 2 should be in play. But the the more I look at it, the less sure I am.
Thing is the initial top 16 seemed to show the committee was leaning on quality metrics, and for those you need to do more than just win (see Providence and Wisconsin).

Too many blue bloods they'll favor for us to make a 2 seed even if we do win the SECT. Unless we win the SECT, I'm not sure we can hold a 3 seed. Red headed stepchildren like UT rarely get a break. Tenn Cup is securely in place and will remain so.

We don’t have to win the SEC Tournament just to hold a 3-seed. Let’s not overreact here. We were the #11 seed when they first revealed their rankings. Since that time we’ve ONLY lost to Arkansas on the road and we’ve beaten #3 Auburn at home and #14 Arkansas. All we have to do is win our first game in the SEC Tournament and we’ll be a 3-seed. Hell, I would argue we are likely a 3-seed regardless but let’s just win at least one to make sure.

This…you win the first game and I feel very confident a 3 seed is locked up, and as you said it may be already but a bad loss to South Carolina could crack the door. As for a 2 it’s gonna be dependent on what the other teams to do determine what we need to do. Assume Wisconsin wins today and you’ve likely got…

Kentucky
Wisconsin
Duke
———
Villanova
Tennessee
Purdue
Texas Tech

heading into conference tournaments. Tennessee sets up to play Kentucky in the 2nd game if both teams advance, I think a win would move Tennessee over Kentucky. Duke can win their tourney without really stacking up an impressive win. Wisconsin & Purdue will hopefully get put on the same side of their brackets and have to get through each other. Tech has to play Texas game 1 and then Kansas game 2 most likely, obviously wins will move them up but good chance of early L too.

There’s a lot of that going on. Providence has been ahead of us pretty much the whole time in projected brackets but their NET is way lower. That’s just one example. I know you can’t go just by NET but strength of schedule has to matter and Providence didn’t even play 3 of their toughest games, otherwise they’d probably have 1-2 more losses.

None of it matters though. We’re going to have to beat some quality teams to make a run. All I know is I’m more fired up about our chances this time than any year, including the best teams under Barnes and Pearl.

What do you mean by “quality metrics”? Are you talking about winning big vs just winning (aka “style points”)? If that’s so then Providence doesn’t have it. They lost big to UVA and huge to Marquette and their best wins have been close games. Is that what you mean?

No they haven’t, we passed up Providende awhile ago and have stayed in front.

I thought Providence has been on the 3 seed line in Lunardi’s bracket for the last several weeks and we just passed them recently. Same thing with Katz. I don’t check them every week as there’s no point but it seems like every time I looked they were ahead of us.

Just a quick glance on here and Providence was a 3 the week of February 16th. I think we jumped them the following week, which was 2 weeks ago. That’s what I’m talking about. They should’ve never been ahead of us based on the metrics I’ve seen.

No, even Lunardi has had us ahead of Providence for awhile now…as for Katz I have no clue as he’s complete garbage.

Lunardi was late moving them past us, you may not be aware but he’s regarded as an average at best “bracketologist”, he just happens to work for ESPN so his stuff is everywhere and people take it as gold. It’s why I use bracketmatrix to report things and create models here, much more accurate. Providence was ahead of us, and arguably deservingly so until they lost at home to Villanova on February 15, which is the same weekend we beat Kentucky at home…we’ve been ahead of them and opened the gap ever since then.

Quality metrics the committee looks at on the team sheets - KenPom, BPI, Sagarin

I knew Lunardi isn’t considered great. I just don’t know where better sources are, other than looking at what you all compile here. Believe me, I don’t trust anything that comes out of the ESPN propaganda machine. They’re not sports journalists, they’re political activists. Anyway, I appreciate the work you and others put in. This is one of my favorite times of the year. I love conference championship week and then of course the tournament.
