Bracketmatrix 2021-22

I was listening to The Athletic's live chat with Eamonn Brennan and Brian Bennett earlier this afternoon, and I asked if Tennessee had a shot at cracking the 2 seed line with a win tomorrow and a good SECT showing. Brian thought it was possible but has the Vols as the final 3 seed at the moment, with some breathing room between us and Kentucky/Auburn. He said something about Tennessee, Kentucky, Auburn, and Arkansas being a bit of a "pick one" situation at the moment, which is probably a thought shared by many.

Curious what others think about seed likelihood, but right now it seems like 3 > 4 > 2 >>>>> 1.

I think the 2 and 4 seed are about equal probability right now. With a win vs Arkansas, I think probability for a 2 seed will be a little bit higher unless we lose the first game of the SEC tourney. At this point in the season, losses will drop you more than wins will jump you IMO if other teams ahead of you keep winning.

Difference between 2&3 is likelihood of playing a 6/7 in 2nd round, and right now there’s some 6’s I would rather not see.

Your personal submission is my nightmare scenario lol. Gonzaga as our #1? Duke? OSU in the second round? Thanks, I hate it. Can’t think of a harder path to the Final Four than that one.
I was thinking about it and I think Baylor might get the #1 overall seed. Defending champs.. Favorites to win the Big 12 tourney which is arguably the toughest in the country, and Gonzaga coming off a loss to St Marys. Anyway the odds of us playing in Chicago/Philly are relatively low since Auburn and Kentucky would likely get one of those. So I think we’re going to be in San Fran/San Antonio against 1. Baylor/Gonzaga and 2. Duke/Nova

Also, I’ve run multiple irritations of the Matrix and Teamsheet and it frequently has us with Ohio St in Pittsburgh. As long as we’re a 3 and they’re a 6 it’s a likely matchup

Ohio State doesn’t scare me very much because they don’t have much of a defense. Even if it is in close proximity to their campus. I don’t think they’ve faced a defense like ours and they for sure aren’t the same team that beat Duke earlier in the season. They are very inconsistent, they haven’t won more than 2 games in a row in conference play. Their defense fails them (ranked 118 on KenPom). Also, they don’t play a guy over 6’8”, a lot of small ball

Yeah I think we’d beat them. I just think they’ll have a lot of fans who can make the east drive to Pittsburgh

Everybody going to the game tomorrow better have their coffee ready to go early in the morning. Early start but it better be ROCKING! Still quite a few tickets (around 400) on the secondary market but I’m sure it’ll be almost at 100%.

It would be glorious if Nebraska takes down Wisconsin. Purdue easily could lose due to their awful defense. Kentucky, Nova, and TTU all have tough games on the road. Duke-Carolina is a rivalry. Lots of chaos could happen today.

Arizona can be hot and cold on offense as Tennessee. What i have seen if Providence i just see them as more hungry and playing better
Providence is a good team but they aren’t a great team. They’ve greatly benefited from 3 games in January against some of the best in the Big East being cancelled. They’ve won a bunch of close games against middle to lower tier teams in the Big East. They did plan Nova tough twice but lost both. They have great early season wins against UW and Tx Tech but also have an 18 point loss to a mediocre UVA and 32 point loss to Marquette. The NET system isn’t perfect but it’s what we have and Providence is 24th. The main attribute they seem to have is experience. The average age of the players on their team is 23. That’s crazy! They have 5 grad players. Anyway, the Big East does normally play well but I’d be good matching up with the Friars. I don’t get how anyone has them ahead of us. We’re 16 spots better in NET. That’s huge.

We are a solid win tomorrow away from being Top 8 or better in NET & KenPom…would be hard to argue that Wisconsin with a NET of 20 & KenPom of 25 deserves to be ahead.
Should be hard but these are the same people putting Providence over us and trying to claim Rutgers is a tournament team.

I was able to go to practice yesterday and the word around TBA was that we were headed to Pittsburgh.
