I can live w/ this if this is how it shakes out. Auburn would get hosed. TFB

If you rank each team’s difficult schedule using this chart with a rating of 1 – 3 with 3 being the most difficult I would say it works out like this:

Alabama – 2

Arkansas – 1

Auburn – 3

Florida – 2

Georgia – 2

Kentucky – 1

LSU – 2

Mississippi State – 2

Missouri – 1

Oklahoma – 2

Ole Miss – 1

South Carolina – 2

Tennessee – 1

Texas – 2

Texas A&M – 2

Vanderbilt – 1

So, I’d say that Auburn is getting hosed here while Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Vanderbilt are making out like bandits.

Bama game just became a must win this year. It would be great to send Bama out of this annual game with a big L.

It looks they would be prioritizing LSU and aTm over Arkansas vs LSU or aTm. I’m kind of surprised by that.

I like what you say, however I would remove Vandy, can't be a money maker or for the most part a game that that can improve the standing of our program. I know this seems like asking for trouble, but I would insert Ga. for Vandy..
There’s zero way Tennessee doesn’t play Vandy yearly.

Georgia would likely have Auburn and Florida already. Idk that they would put in Tennessee there. Auburn would be interesting as they almost have to have georgia given how long that game has been played. Then you get Bama as well. 😂

Auburn kind of deserves it. Dirtiest program in the conference. Not to mention their fans would lose their minds if they didn’t play Georgia and Bama every year.

Not going to happen.

Tennessee's 3 permanent rivals will be Bama (3 Saturday), Vandy (in-state SEC Rival), and Kentucky (most played Rival). The other 6 games will be rotational with other SEC teams. That's one tough team, one medium team and one cellar dweller.... good balance.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Kentucky is changed out for one of the more successful “power 6” conference teams (Florida, Georgia, Auburn, etc) to create a better sense of balance.

Or they could setup pods for the permanent opponents:

Pod 1 - GA, KY, Fla , SC
Pod 2 - TN, Vandy, Alabama, Auburn
Pod 3 - LSU, Miss, Miss St, Arkansas
Pod 4 - Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Mizz

They’re not doing pods. They already came down to two options: a 9 game conference schedule with 3 permanent opponents or an 8 game conference schedule with 1 permanent opponent.

This article states the decision between the 8 or 9 game conference schedule is split between the top 8 programs and the bottom 8 and if ESPN is willing to increase its payout if a 9 game schedule is selected.

Interestingly Tennessee is considered as part of the bottom 8.

SEC Faces Decision on New Schedule Format With Early Additions of Texas, Oklahoma

The author looks to have made some effort to note Tennessee as being caught between the two sections. (Though they’re also split along revenue-generating lines it seems)

I don’t know if anyone has brought it up yet, but assuming we move to 9, I can already hear the fans being pissed when they get Bama or UGA as their 5th road game and they just miss the CFP.

I think Nashville was at its peak from 2005-2015. That said, all of the “It Cities” have sorta faded. I’m not sure what the heir apparent are now. Some have suggested Memphis is poised to get there, but we’ll see.

Memphis would have a loooooooooooooooooooooooooong way to go just to be poised at this point.

I say inside a month. I expect everything is already decided. just need an announcement.
You think that the SEC is done adding teams with the inclusion of Tx and Ok ... or could we see more teams come in in 2024 as well???

Yes. But I still prefer the one permanent opponent. Adds more excitement not having to play the same teams every year. Plus, we would get Vandy if this scenario happened. Would benefit us.

Tennessee will get Vanderbilt either way…

SEC gonna be a meat grinder. 28 of the 39 Five-Stars in the 2023 Class, ended up at an SEC school or a school headed to the SEC.

Bama w/9 alone, as many as the #2 (UGA) & #3 (Texas) classes combined.

You also have to look at this from the SEC's perspective.

A) They're going to give every team its #1 rival. For Vanderbilt, that's Tennessee. For Kentucky, that's Tennessee. For Tennessee, that's Alabama. The "secondary" rivals will take a lesser priority. Florida is not Tennessee's #1 and Tennessee is not Florida's #1 (that's Georgia). Tennessee is not Georgia's #1 (that's Florida) and Georgia is not Tennessee's #1. The Tennessee-Florida and Tennessee-Georgia rivalries weren't rivalries until divisions made them so in the 90's.

B) They're not going to eliminate any instate rivalry. Vanderbilt and Tennessee will play every year.

Yeah, in order for prior with Tennessee, it is

1. Vanderbilt
2. Kentucky
3. Alabama
4. Florida
5. Georgia?

We will keep the top 3. I think that is the order of matchups we will keep and I see 3-6-6 being the final situation. We might get East-West for a little bit with Missouri going West and Alabama-Auburn coming East temporary.
