Breaking: TX, OU Reach Agreement to Join SEC in 2024

You think that the SEC is done adding teams with the inclusion of Tx and Ok ... or could we see more teams come in in 2024 as well???

They’re done for the shorter, foreseeable future. The next big shifting would occur possibly around when the ACC Grant of Rights is approaching its expiration (it currently is set to expire in 2036).

Does weather work in its favor for such?

Fair point, but their weather is no worse than Boston, which became an IT city recently.

I just love that Cincinnati has such an "old" feel, preserves its old buildings, and caters to the locals. In that sense, I hope it doesn't become an IT city, because that would ruin it.

I personally prefer one permanent game and the other 8 games rotate yearly. It gives a 4 year player a chance to play in every stadium.
If you go that route, our 1 permanent would have to be Vandy. I could live with that , but we have also played both Alabama and Kentucky a hundred time each,

If you rank each team’s difficult schedule using this chart with a rating of 1 – 3 with 3 being the most difficult I would say it works out like this:

Alabama – 2

Arkansas – 1

Auburn – 3

Florida – 2

Georgia – 2

Kentucky – 1

LSU – 2

Mississippi State – 2

Missouri – 1

Oklahoma – 2

Ole Miss – 1

South Carolina – 2

Tennessee – 1

Texas – 2

Texas A&M – 2

Vanderbilt – 1

So, I’d say that Auburn is getting hosed here while Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Vanderbilt are making out like bandits.
They have earned getting hosed. We have been hosed for the last 20+ years.

I believe it would be Vandy as well due to the instate “rivalry.” I think they would go this route if possible for the other teams. Besides UGA-UF, USC-UK, Texas-OK, LSU-A&M, Arkansas-Mizzou.

bama should, without a doubt, be a permanent opponent for Tennessee. That said, vandy probably will as well. My 2 pennies say texas should be also if for no other reason than it would be a great "The Real UT" selling point.

I think the Bama game of 2022 brought this game back to what it used to be, and timing might be everything. There were a ton of people that wanted to drop this as a permanent game. Old timers know this game has been one of the streakiest in college football history. When the pendulum swings, it swings hard, and we have a young upcoming coach and face it - Saban ain't going to be around much longer. 3rd Saturday in October for these teams is still special.

I can live w/ this if this is how it shakes out. Auburn would get hosed. TFB

It's really not as big a deal who the permanents are under 3/6/6. We are used to permanent teams being a HUGE deal balance wise because there is only 1 rotating team out of 8. Now there will be 6 rotating teams out of 9. The balance will come from the rotation. If you have easier permanents that means your rotation will be chock full of difficult teams.

I agree.

I like this approach. Shouldn't have to wait a decade to visit another stadium. Austin will definitely be on our list

I suspect Texas will have dates at Ole Miss and Tennessee in Year 1. I should say I won’t be surprised if that’s the case.

Our perms outta be Bama, Florida or Texas and one of the crap bags - KY or Vandy, but not both.
It’s not like a nine game SEC schedule is gonna in any way be easy - you’re not gonna get a slate full of Missouri and Kentucky and Vandy and miss state.
Hell even if you did, the other five are gonna be a bitch. Georgia LSU Bama aTm Oklahoma etc etc

Gonna be nice to see Georgia playing as rough a slate as us for once

I agree, but I think I’ll take UK and Vandy every year as opposed to what Auburn or LSU or Arkansas will most likely have. I think I can count on 2 hands how many times we’ve lost to them in my 40 years.

No way does anyone think Vandy is a bigger game than Florida. The article says you need geography for a rivalry yet Florida and LSU are rivals. So are Minnesota and Michigan. In most cases, sure. But not every case.
The current head football coach at the University of Tennessee seems to disagree.

"Obviously, there are some that have been historic for a long time – inside of our own state, and with Alabama.” - Josh Heuple

I can't help but think that whatever format they announce, it's going to benefit Tennessee. The fewer teams that play us on a yearly basis, the better. For as long as Heup is our coach, our style of play could be a shock to any system that doesn't have the familiarity of playing is year in and year out.

I’ll take a shot at it:

Alabama: Auburn, Tennessee, MS State
Arkansas: Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri
Auburn: Alabama, UGA, Ole Miss
Florida: UGA, SCar, LSU
Georgia: Auburn, Florida, South Carolina
Kentucky: Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Missouri
LSU: Florida, Texas A&M, Ole Miss
MSU: Alabama, Ole Miss, Texas A&M
Missouri: Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kentucky
Oklahoma: Texas, Missouri, Arkansas
Ole Miss: Auburn, LSU, MS State,
South Carolina: Florida, UGA, Vandy
Tennessee: Alabama, Kentucky, Vandy
Texas: Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M
Texas A&M: LSU, MS State, Texas
Vandy: Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina

you have nailed it.
this preserves and resurrects all the necessary rivalries.
well done

Yeah, but you play everyone every other year so it's not like you'll be playing teams who see the offense one time in their career like it is now when we cross over against say, LSU.
