Brent Venables could be our next DC

No to Venables.
What, you would not take Brent Venables as defensive coordinator? Mind-boggling even though it's not going to happen. I would take Venables all day over Banks who is living off Rodney Garney. The last I looked on here Willie couldn’t coach and Banks played soft coverage, what happened is talent.

100% that’s what most said! Willie couldn’t coach but I guess this year he woke up one day and remembered. It’s all TALENT!

I would love to believe you. So think about this and talk it out.

Banks makes $1.2 this season, plus bonuses for bowls, playoffs etc. So he could end up making more like 1.5 or 1.6 depending on how far they go.

mike houston was making $2.3 before they fired him. Since the
y fired him, i would expect them to try and get an upgrade and will probably have to pay up for their choice.

So let’s say they offer him $3 million.

Imo, It will be hard to turn that down considering he could probably be in a contract around $15 million in 5 years. If he has a good agent, he could basically get most of that guaranteed with a solid buyout clause.

It would take him twice as long maybe ~10 years to make that here. Plus who knows if he’ll still have a job then. Things can change quickly.

Money talks, especially when you come from nothing like he did. He grew up in a not so great part of Detroit. $15mil would be life changing to him and his family. Plus if its guaranteed, im not sure how he can say no.

Maybe he doesn’t want that job, but if they offer enough money, they could change his mind. You never know what you might do until someone pulls out the checkbook.
Paralysis of Analysis. Like Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz. Recruitting has gone well. Banks may or may not have already turned down one job MTSU. There may be a Recruiting Impact. Venables would probably get another HC offer, so it is really a wash and Banks will stay with what he is building here. I think he and CJH are building a power house here and it is going to take a few yrs.

How many times has that scenario happened?

I mean Cutcliffe left us right before the NC game, so if the right opportunity comes then why wouldn’t he?
Some people just don’t want to be head coaches. Look at Garner. I can guarantee you he has had many opportunities to be a head coach. He never wanted it.

Yeah like you do. By all means, educate us with your wisdom.
You've admitted to calling for Banks head. You argued yesterday that CJH called a terrible first half. Only a moron thinks so. Our O left multiple TD’s on the board bc of bad execution And I could go on and on.

OK fired their OC today and he’ll be next if things don’t turn around. Would hate to lose Banks, but would be happy for him if he got a HC job (if he wants to be a HC) because there will be some teams calling once the season is over. Venables would be a good hire

Lots of ifs BUT very possible imo
Not really.

Venables has a buyout of $40M+ currently.

He's going to have to suck really, really bad for OU to make him that wealthy and if they do, there's not a reason in the world for him to work again.

Inge will replace Banks if Banks leaves.

I would think Banks has a real shot at the Broyles award this year. Knowing when to make the move to head coach is key. Sometimes a coach can get his first head coaching gig at a premier program like Muschamp or Venables and avoid potential career suicide by taking a job with some directional school train wreck.

Would be a good hire if available. William Inge would probably be in consideration as well.
I think Inge is the plan if Banks leaves (which he will). Of course, if Venables is available, plans can change. I wanted Venables as HC when we hired Pruitt, but hiring coordinators for HC is risky.

OU has an absolutely brutal schedule to finish the year, with 4 of their next 5 against top 25 opponents. Whether or not Venables gets fired will depend on how they perform in these games. If they finish 3-2 and look competitive doing it, I think he stays. If they go 2-3 with multiple blowouts, he could be gone. 1-4 and I can't envision he is retained.

Does Tim Banks want to be a head coach? I don’t know one way or the other. I didn’t realize Banks had coached under Botch.
