Brent Venables could be our next DC

1)Brent won’t be available.
2)Inge will get a shot at DC if Banks leaves.
3)Banks won’t be going unless it’s the right opportunity.
4)Seth L was pretty much hamstrung with the injuries and youth of that offense. I wouldn’t have any issue with adding him as an analyst. If he wants to jump right back in I wouldn’t be surprised to see him here.

What, you would not take Brent Venables as defensive coordinator? Mind-boggling even though it's not going to happen. I would take Venables all day over Banks who is living off Rodney Garney. The last I looked on here Willie couldn’t coach and Banks played soft coverage, what happened is talent.
At this time, I want nobody but Banks right now. Tennessee is currently 4th in total defense and the defense has gotten better every year. The defense won Oklahoma, Florida, Alabama, and did their best to win against Arkansas.

Would love it if Banks took the Kirby route of staying a DC until big schools are foaming at the mouth to hire him instead of jumping to a G5 like Golesh. Either way is understandable though.

I agree. His advice would be great but Heupel isn't the strongest personality I've ever seen on a coach.

I'd like to see Josh become more forceful, less Midwestern laid back, take a sideline penalty for chewing at a ref, get in the grill of a player who needs it, etc. Your HC needs to be the biggest lion on the sideline and, if I were a player, I'd be scared of the wrath of Coach Garner, not Coach Heupel.
Outside of reigning ass chewer extraordinaire, Kirby Smart, who doesn’t discipline anyone on his team, what coach do you want to see Josh model himself after on the sideline?

Does Tim Banks want to be a head coach? I don’t know one way or the other. I didn’t realize Banks had coached under Botch.
If I’m remembering correctly, he interviewed for the MTSU head coaching position after last season.

Kirby appears to be emotionally about to lose it. He’s already pushed an opposing player & now calling out refs “trying to cheat us”. Let’s see how this works out for him as the year goes by.

If 35 arrests in 3 years & 2 funerals are the price for national championships, I’m fine just being competitive

OK fired their OC today and he’ll be next if things don’t turn around. Would hate to lose Banks, but would be happy for him if he got a HC job (if he wants to be a HC) because there will be some teams calling once the season is over. Venables would be a good hire

Lots of ifs BUT very possible imo
I heard Venerables got an extension as they fired the OC.

Even if USF only wins 1 more game this season and finishes 4-8, that win total would match his predecessor, Jeff Scott, 4 wins over 3 seasons. Golesh isn't going to be fired.
A few weeks ago, Golesh’s name was popping as a possible replacement for Napier. I doubt it happens but he was on their short list of possible candidates.

I think we would all like to see Heupel work the officials a bit harder and show his emotions more often. I'm not looking for broken headsets like Saban or Kiffin clipboard throwing antics but I want to see him a bit more animated than usual.

My worry about Venables is that he's got some success under his belt, probably will try a HC job again, and I'm not sure he'd be 100% into having Heupel call all the shots.

What Saban and Smart did/do hauling in analysts or coaches for rehab is still a few years down the road for Heupel. He needs to be the top dog in the room long enough that it's clear he hired a dog not because he really needed them but to give them a place to go while they licked their wounds from getting fired.

Florida will probably swing for the fences with their next hire. They spent a ton of money on Napier and are getting nothing for their effort

Anybody think that East Carolina makes an offer to Banks?

They already have a couple of ex Vols in Gilbert and Schawrtz.

Venables will be the coach at OU next year.

Inge will be DC if Banks leaves. That’s why he’s here instead of Alabama

I’m not a fan of hiring friends and family.
Neither am I, but CJH does like to hire guys from within his circle. I think there is an article out about the offensive system and how they purposely don't go outside the circle to hire. Personally I would love to hire Brent because he seems to have the best understanding of our system outside of Kirby on the defensive side. Idc who the OC is because at the end of the day CJH is calling the plays.

Lots of (incognito) ifs, ands running around in there .... I am proposing that your logic is more supposition.
I am not making any of the following arguments:
I am not saying that Banks will or won't be at UT next fall.
I'm not assuming I know how much money Banks will be making next fall, if he were to stay at UT.
I'm not assuming that everybody desires to be a head coach (I know one, for sure, that never wanted to be a head coach). So, I'm not assuming that Banks wants to be a head coach.
I'm not assuming that Banks is ready (Kirby Smart was a position coach for 9 years, and a DC for 8 years, before he took a head coaching job).
I'm not assuming money is more important than anything else.

I AM HOPING that he stays for 2 or 3 more years! :^)
Pay him more
