Brian Randolph Commits

Nice pick up for the Vols. Looks like metro ATL is beginning to turn our way. I also agree that a kid that wants to commit to us this early is a good sign. Looks like everyone is saying the same thing....Great coaches. Keep it up CDD!!

why don't we wait 3-4 years before we start placing value judgments on our pick-ups? Unless you would like a roster stocked full of Jabari Davis, Kenny O'neal, Chris Donald, etc etc etc etc etc.

It's a message board. What would you like me to do? It's a decent pickup. That's not a bad thing.

I understand the point, but it's senseless to assume that all big time recruits are busts.

I understood the point, and he's right to an extent, but it's not like this is a guy who can make or break a recruiting class or we added someone with a need desperation at his position.

i didn't assume that. I assumed that we have to wait 3-4 years before placing any type of value judgment on a pick-up.... until then, I just don't see how we can label it a great pick up, bad pick up, or decent pick up. As the poster above alluded to, as fans that have seen our fair share of 5 star busts, we should be the first to be hesitant in putting a lot of value stock in star ratings.

PS. I feel like my post may come across as more harsh than I intended... Obvously, we are on a message board and we all have recruits that we favor over others.... for instance, I assume most on here would prefer a commitment from Avery Walls over Randolph, even though Randolph may end up having the better college career... I certainly don't mean to knock anyone who openly discusses their preferences (in regards to recruits), but I just don't think we can claim yet whether picking up Randolph was "great" "decent" or "bad." The kid chose to play at UT over other schools and appears to be a top notch student, so to me it just seems like we should try ad be optimistic.

Almost identcal to Arenas coming out of high school as far as size, ranking, and measurables (Arenas a 5.5 3 star/ Randolph 5.6 3 star...so far). Only difference is Randolph is a lot better student sporting a 4.1 GPA and is from the peach state instead of Florida.

Randolph is scored a 78, which in turn = a 3***, if he gets to a 79 then he will be a
4****! Also Tom Smith who committed today is rated a 76 so he is also close to a 4****. It's a numbers game for those people who want to bash just cause he is not a 4 or 5 Star, understand the scoring system before you bash a recruit!!!!!!!!!!!!! GBO!!!!

Don't be so angry, gosh! Kidding, but who cares about the *? It's an opinion from someone behind a closed door watching videos and occasionally going to games. It's by no means accurate. It's not like a General in the military who has actually earned it. JMO.

This kid is a great pick up no matter how much of a critic you are. Why is it that some "fans" only understand tangible things like how many stars a player has, but can't comprehend any of the intangibles, such as ability, motivation, desire, and leadership skills?

I honestly beleive that if both of the kids we picked up today were rated as 5 stars, the same old miserable "fans" would have something negative to point out. Instead of judging a hard working kid, who is about to give everything he has ever worked for in his life to UT, grow up and act your age.

Go Vols.

While I don't think star ratings are everything, the teams pulling in top 5-10 classes are the teams winning championships.

:dance2:

Great pick ups! Those of you concerned about stars, remember that they have another season to play in high school and they can improve to a 4*. Happens every year!

Those same teams are also taking guys like Randolph to fill out their classes. I'm not necessarily saying that we will be able to recruit over Randolph, but we will damn well try.

We gotta start somewhere. A foundation on 3-4* players isn't a bad way to rebuild the depth.

This is great news! To hell with any Negative Nancy's on here.......

GBO!!!!!!!!!

Haven't seen one negative post in this thread. Just read it from page one to end. If I missed a few I'm sorry.

Super offer list on this kid. Now have competition at the saftey position....GBO

For those of you still sniffing Kiffy and O's jock....this was their first out of state offer for the '11 class

Exactly.....if Lance Thompson tells you the kid is a player.....you shut your mouth and show the kid respect with an offer and pursue him.....the Lance knows football players!

Tennessee always gets more productivity out of 3* and 4* kids.....other than Manning and Berry I can't think of any other 5* being productive at all at UT for their career....Janzen has the potential to be a superstar if he can quit trying to portray the life of a gangsta rapper/rock star.
