Missing the Final Four is something Lady Vol fans don't want to see, but the team hates it just as much. But, have you seen either of the two games played so far? There is no doubt that Holly has filled needs on this squad. I remember a few years ago where the Lady Vols signed six highly ranked players who played well, but not well enough.
I realize that the two games played were Carson Newman and Penn, but there was a cohesiveness not recently seen with the Lady Vols. The team tonight committed only 8 turnovers - 8! The freshmen played 32, 25 and 26 minutes respectively and committed exactly 0 turnovers as a group, while each scored in double figures. Are they going to be able to do the same when we play a Texas or Rutgers or Stanford? I don't know. But I do know that I'm not nearly as worried as I have been in the past couple of years. Recruiting was done to fill needs and not simply to get the highest ranked players available. And a good job was done, despite your negative view. Did Brown turn us down? Obviously. But, the vast majority predicted her to Baylor months ago and nothing really changed in the interim except for the fact that Holly kept the Lady Vols in the Picture until the very end. Now Mompremier is on the cusp. Her decision is expected Tuesday. According to common wisdom she is down to two schools and Tennessee is one of them. The fact that we have Russell coming back and Graves for another year alongf with emergence of Nia Moore may have her choosing a different school, but, if so, that hardly means Holly and the staff have failed or that the Lady Vols are in a downward spiral in recruiting. Having three top ten classes in three years is pretty darn good by anyone's standards.
I suggest you watch the play rather than checking the rankings. This group of freshmen might surprise you.
