Bruce Pearl is a better basketball coach than Kevin O'Neill

If that's an attempt at humor, it's excellent. If serious, it's the dumbest thing posted here in a long, long time.

Really? The only place on earth where you can find either one is in Knoxville. Neither has a logical argument because both can't overcome their record.
Trying to compare Oneil to Jay Wright, Pitino, or any other truly great coach is the dumbest thing posted on here.
If a coach is truly great, there is no need to argue it because no one would pay attention, but look at the attention this hack is getting?

The point is, the people supporting O'Neill aren't the ones supporting Fulmer.

Are we counting Indiana, because I don't think that would be very fair.

No at Marquette. It is very underwhelming to say the least. The jury is still out on Crean. I think he is a good coach but as Hat pointed out a couple of weeks ago, his tenure without Wade was pretty underwhelming.

He absolutely did not inherit a bad situation at UWM. He came in after Bo Ryan for Christ's sake.

It was nothing compared to the mess KO walked in to. That's not debatable.

You would think a great coach wouldn't have to walk into a terrible situation. With all the job openings every year, you would think he could find a decent one.

I am not saying it hasn't. However, he had two fairly rough years after Wade, then three very competitive years, then he walked into Indiana. The competition in conference should be factored in in all situations. He has coached in two of the best leagues (if not the two best) out there.

That would be a good start.

I know about the Pump Brothers and I know about Deon Thomas, but I think the majority of big programs are shady with recruits in many aspects. Hell, it's hard to really take Coach K to task, but almost everyone knows that they basically paid for Carlos Boozer to go there, setting his mom up with a nice job and living arrrangements. So if his program is capable of those things, you can't really be shocked about anyone, IMO.

What, specifically, don't you like about Pearl?

He chose Tennessee, and luckily for us. Hell, if he hadn't gotten some players in, it could have gotten a lot worse.

What does that have anything to do with anything? You do realize that Pearl's top 2 players on that UWM team didn't even play for Ryan, right? Yet when Pearl comes in, they average 17 and 16 PPG. Kinda sounds like the effect he had on Watson, Lofton, and Smith here. You do also realize that Pearl's style and Ryan's styles are polar opposites. So Pearl won with players that were recruited for a style completely opposite of his. Again, tell me how Ryan set him up for the success he had at UWM.

On a side note, Cowherd is being an idiot again. Apparently Jimmer is overrated. I bet New Mexico would disagree.

I think comparing Kevin's tenure on the Hill to Crean's at Indiana is fair, but I don't think that will help tvols' argument.

I thought we were comparing O'Neill to Pearl.

Is he among the "truly great coach" grouping?

Tell me how it was a terrible situation. I didn't say it was optimal, but Bo Ryan isn't Wade Houston.

So you don't think UWM at best was a below average program with below average talent? Their prior years suggest otherwise.
