Bruce Pearl is a better basketball coach than Kevin O'Neill

I'd rather go on probation. Wait, that's not an option?

this might be more interesting- if Bruce is gone after this season (as many are predicting), is UT basketball in better shape than when KO left?

Yes. Six straight NCAAs and national relevance.

Was Bruce idiotic and possibly ruined a great thing because he lied? Yes.

I still say we are in a better spot as long as we don't get a postseason ban.

Two things. My goal is to be a college coach, I reached out to KO and he reciprocated by allowing me to watch them practice and speaking with me after practice.

I've been down to UT and watched UT practice. Enjoyed and learned some things and Coach Pearl was pretty nice.

The amount of notes I took and what I learned watching KO teach far and away exceeds what I've learned watching UT.

That's what I'm basing my opinion on.
Crazy talk.

KO left behind a team that a guy who couldn't get an interview at St. Bonaventure took to four straight NCAA Tournaments.

Pearl will be leaving behind a roster where Cam Tatum is the leading returning scorer.

We report, you decide.

To be fair, if that's the roster he leaves behind it's because he sent 2 guys on one team to the pros early.

Haha. College coaching success is based on what you deem noteworthy? Cool.

As long as we aren't judging on actual wins.

What the hell difference does that make? I guess USC fans should be sending Tim letters telling him how much they appreciate almost having Derrick Williams, Solomon Hill, and Mo Jones on their roster the last two years.

Great thread. You should start another one in six weeks that includes UT's new coach.

what do those players have to do with next year's team? At least KO got us a PG

If that's the case, maybe he will have a better record than O'Neill too. Hope so. It's not perfect(i support and like Dooley) but once you extrapolate to 400 or so games, usually record is a pretty good indicator of success.

It's a decent argument. Jones, Ware, Golden, Maymon, McRae, Tatum, Mcbee.

That doesnt look great. That's ignoring guys like Chism, Prince, Maze, Smith, Williams, Harris, and Hopson that Bruce brought in by his lonesome.

You do realize Tyler Smith had signed with Tennessee coming out of high school, don't you? The only reason he ever had to transfer back from Iowa in the first place is that master recruiter Bruce Pearl managed to lose a recruiting battle to Steve Alford.

Probably because they won't be on the team next year.

Yeah, getting J.P. Prince because Cal wouldn't take him at Memphis and he couldn't get admitted at Vandy is some brilliant recruiting.

Did he really lose if Smith finished his career at UT?

Even then, when Smith wasn't on the team anymore we went to an elite 8.

Again you asked who the better coach (teacher) is. Can't argue record, but if I had to choose one of these two coaches to come teach my guys how to play defense I would choose KO and not sure how it could even be close.

I sure wouldn't want Pearl teaching my guys offense and if you look at the things KO is doing with 'SC it's not 1995 anymore.

It's also ignoring fine citizens like Tony Passley, Ramar Smith, Duke Crews, and Josh Tabb that Pearl brought in all by his lonesome.
