Bruce Pearl on PTI

Pearl understands the big picture. Get exposure, promote the program, get the team on T.V. every possible chance, play anybody anywhere which all leads to getting better recruits. The AD sure understands it, why don't you!!

Those recruits have been studs, haven't they? I mean Ramar Smith, Duke Crews, Renaldo Woolridge, Phillip Jurick, Bobby Maze, Cam Tatum, and Marques Johnson are gonna win us the National Title, right?

For as much money as we're paying Pearl, we could get a much better coach in terms of Xs and Os.

Pearl is a good salesman and recruiter. He's a mediocre coach, at best. He won't take us to any championships, but he's a good guy to jump start a program.

Pearl is no Coach K or anything but his style is to press, create turnovers which gives his team more posessions. He could do none of that this year with this team and still won 21 games and made it to the dance. He has adapted his style and still been fairly successful.

So when these are all his players, why can't they run his system?

Since they can't run that system, shouldn't they be able to do something else? Instead, they look terrible in a halfcourt offense, play bad defense, and generally, don't give a whole lot of effort.

All of those things can be pointed back at Bruce.

How many McDonald's all americans has UNC signed in the past 2 years. 7!! We have 1. Until then Vincent Yarbrough was our last one. More will come if we continue to be relevant every year.

No, that's all laziness on the part of the players. That SEC championship last year, that was Pearl

I guarantee that we'll get a lot more recruits if we win, not if he does a segment on ESPN a couple days before the biggest game of the season.

Recruits don't want to play for a coach that wins games in the NCAA tournament. They want to play for a coach who knows Wilbon.

You make it sound like we are in Kentucky's situation hosting an NIT game tomorrow night. I said Bruce still had a good season having to change his style. I did not say he recruited exactly the right players for his style which is certainly his fault for doing so I admit. But he still brought in some talent that will be better next year and hopefully we find the missing pieces in the next few years especially like Josh Selby!!!

Why is he not a good coach?? Because are most half court offenses not pick n rolls anyway? With all the madness on the court with Bruce Pearls offense he runs players around and creates mismatches on the offensive side of the ball. I dont think running set plays is always the best way to score. The hardest thing in basketball is to defend 1on 1. We spread the court and try to force teams to play 1 on 1. Most teams are packing the box because we are not shooting as good as we did last year. And if you ever played basketball the real way to get a team out of a zone defense which we stuggle the most in is too "shoot them out of the zone" we dont have that this year we have big guys who can drive but its hard when they pack the paint.
He lost 4 starting players from last years team and 2 that were a really significant part of that team. We dont have the bailout 3 ball we had last year so we are having to work harder for wins. And your talking about losing 2 great senior shooters and replacing them with 2 freshmen.
Without a point guard to run a fast paced offense its tough for Bruce to coach this style of basketball anyway.
Replacing 4 starters would be really tough for any coach and especially when it was your entire perimeter game.

I think the real question is, What coach could take this exact group of players farther than Pearl?

Off the top of my head? John Calipari, Bill Self, Roy Williams, Coach K, Rick Barnes, Andy Kennedy, Jamie Dixon, Rick Pitino, Jim Calhoun, Ben Howland, Tim Floyd, Bob Huggins, Bobby Knight, Jay Wright, Tom Crean, and Tom Izzo.

He didn't replace 4 starters, and it's his own damn fault he doesn't have a competent point guard.

Ok out of that group, who could we really lure here, and don't say Knight he is unemployed and was so successful at Texas Tech?

Just out of curiosity, what did you see out of Tennessee on Sunday that makes you think the head coach should be doing anything besides coaching two days before Tennessee plays their opening round game? Perhaps you can redeem yourself and make me rethink my stance that people who lack the ability to think critically should all be sterilized.

Because we all know that throughout the day, there is NO time where the team ISN'T practicing, and Bruce Pearl taking the time to sell the UT brand for 5 minutes is all that is wrong with this school. I mean, did you see CPS's interview with ESPN on Selection Monday? WTF was she thinking??? She needs to be spending that time with her team. In fact, why do teams take the time to appear with their coaches on Selection Sunday? Shouldn't they be practicing??? Eating? Sleeping? Nah let's work on man to man. Realize the idiocy of your exaggerations before you jump all over someone else's opinion.

Apparently a coach that has taken us to the sweet 16 two years in a row should be fired. With your 'critical' thinking you should apply to be the AD. We will all laugh when you are fired the following year.

On a side note, would you like to have Roy Williams as our coach?

Or... you guys could not get so worked up over an obvious joke. But hey, I know that asking people to comprehend things is a tall order on this board.

Thank you sir. I think he woke up on the wrong side of the bed, and probably looked in the mirror and was upset about what he saw.

When did I say he should be fired? Again with the comprehension thing. You should really work on that before you start claiming people are of inferior intellect.

and I don't know a lot of people who wouldn't prefer Roy Williams to Bruce Pearl.

North Carolina recruits itself. Williams has so little to work with around that place, I feel sorry for him.:cray:

Wow, did you think that up all by yourself? It's a wonder you have time to post to our message board, what with your busy career as a comedian.

Worked up enough to hijack this thread with one of those endless "Bruce Pearl Sucks" arguments? It's not that hard to comprehend...

Yeah, because that is exactly what I intended to do when I said he should spend five minutes coaching halfcourt offense. The direction of this thread had nothing to do with you jackasses rushing to the defense of your messiah.
