Yeah, he's one of Tony and Mike's favorites. I remember him being on there the year he took UW-M to the Sweet Sixteen as well.

I suspect there will be a question or two about Kiffin.

Bruce Pearl deserves to be criticized, to a certain extent. But a lot of people on here act like he's the worst coach we've ever had. I mean, come on, look at what he's done in the past four years...at UT of all schools. It's obvious some of his schemes aren't working this year and haven't working in previous post seasons, but cut this guy some slack.

In all fairness, it did take Roy Williams 17 years to win that National Championship...at UNC...where it must be nice to coach the best players in the country every year. But yes, I would rather have Roy Williams than Bruce Pearl....FOR NOW!!! :rock:

True, but he did get his first Final Four in his third year. Actually they played in the national championship game that year.

And a lot of people act like he is the best coach UT has ever had, or he is some great top tier coach, and that bothers me because he isn't. UT is paying the guy 2 mil a year, he needs to prove he is worth it, and sooner not later.

And the only argument most of the Pearlophiles can come up with is "it's not his fault that he a)doesn't have a point guard or b) his players are lazy" That's just retarded.

I read the thread. It started out as a polite reminder to everyone that our basketball coach had an interview on tv tomorrow. You then proceeded to take a ridiculous jab at him that had nothin to do with the subject at hand. We get it your lips are sealed firmly to hats behind. You don't have to constantly remind us.

He's taken his teams as far as Tennessee basketball has ever gone in 66% of his seasons. Now, I'm on an expert on UT basketball history, but please tell me what UT coach has done that?

Roy is a good coach at a VERY good basketball school. He also had a reputation as being unable to win the big one at KU. The NC he won at unc was with Matt Doherty's players, fwiw.

One year ago, most of VN was highly concerned that Pearl would leave us for someone like Indiana. We have also spent a lot of time discussing the possibility of him going to BC. Most of us were highly relieved when he decided to stay here instead of going to Iowa.

Now, after one season of ups and downs that was at times painful but resulted in our 3rd East title in four years, 4th consecutive finish above UK in the standings, and first trip to the SECT Final since '91, we are debating whether or not we would be better off without him.

Ridiculous. He gave us those expectations.

He's been the coach for four damn years, that is nowhere near enough time to name him the greatest anything.

Ray Mears won 30+ games in his career at TN how many times exactly? He had two of the best players in the country and did what exactly? Pearl has accomplished more than any coach in UT history. Your argument is ridiculously weak. We can all admit Pearl has flaws, but to argue against what he has done for this program in the las 4 years is just ignorance and stubborness on your part.

Ray Mears had the same winning percentage at Tennessee than Bruce Pearl does and a better career winning percentage. He also has three SEC championships. Pearl has the opportunity to match that, but until he does you don't have an argument.
