Bruce Pearl Suspended

What everyone forgets is Bruce didn't get caught doing anything. The NCAA asked he lied they went away and then he turned himself in. His total punishment by the school and SEC way out wieghs what he did. Slive has started down a slippery slope here that will catch up to him.

But, alas, he was going to get caught, thus necessitating the need to turn himself in before the NCAA busted our balls even more for trying to sweep all this under the rug.

Pearl should and needs to stay. He brought a passion back to the men's basketball program. Yea he lied, and he knows he made a mistake. I'm going to go out on a limb and say we all have made the same mistake in our own lives. Its time to rally behind him and show him our support.

The "holier than thou" crowd is just ridiculous! There was obviously hate before they even knew anything about him. There is no reason to hate someone who has done so much for us. Yet they would want the same support if they were in a similar situation.

The problem with this years team is lack of Senior leadership. None of the Seniors very inspiring. We had Chasm last year. Wish we had him back or another one like him. Hopson doesn't get it done.

Really? He wasn't caught? Because I swear the NCAA had pictures of him at his house with the players.
The idea that he simply had a fit of conscience and went back to the NCAA to set the record straight is the most asinine thing that has been floated in this entire mess.

That was a secondary violation, he lied about that and the NCAA believed whatever he told them and they went away. He then went to MH and told him what he did.

I don't think they ever completely went away. They "bought it" at the time but it would have caught up with Bruce eventually

If you believe that, I've got some investment opportunities in Africa I'd like to discuss with you.

Two months after the fact? Are you that naive?

That's not remotely the correlation. Look at the schools paying salaries comparable to UT. Look at the quality of coaches they have. It's not a difficult equation to follow.

I understood what u were getting at. Someone else brought Coach K and other coaches UT has/had no real chance at into the discussion. You can't really look at it in terms of salary alone tho. I know, leaving my fandom out of it, if I were a top 10 coach, I would coach for UNC, UK or Duke for less money than I would for UT.

They never "bought it." If you think they didn't already know the answers to the questions they asked Pearl, you're being incredibly naive.

I'd be willinng to buy it if it was a day, a couple days, or a week after the fact. But two months? Please.

kind of meant they bought it in Bruce's mind. I have no doubt they knew what had happened. If they were just fishing then the NCAA has way too much time on their hands

I would buy it if he told them before they left campus that day. Otherwise, he lied, and then he found out they knew. He then decided he might look a little better if he told the media before the NCAA did.

The thing with finding a new coach is that most UT Fans/Alum like Bruce and have bought in to his system and style (albeit different) I have been to a couple of the Big Orange Caravan, and the guy just owns the room. Yea Dooley and Pat are impressive, but Bruce just kills it with the fans, and he wins games. I cant imagine him in a recruits livingroom. The guy reminds me of that brother in law that you enjoy hanging with during the Holidays, but probably doesnt pays his mortgage on time.

Anyway its easy to fire someone and dole out a bunch of cash to hire someone, but will we like him as much as Bruce, becuase every move he makes will be compared to him

So Pomeroy had Tennessee going 7-1 over that span with a loss at Ole Miss. Without Pearl there on gameday, how does that change? I still think we beat LSU, Auburn, and Alabama. But what about @Ark, Fla, Vandy, @UGA?

I guess what I'm asking is what should we expect without Pearl on the bench? Is Jones capable of leading this team with similar expectations?

this just makes the SEC look stupid for doing nothing to Auburn. I'm sorry.. but i hope Alabama levels them next week

If AU beats Alabama and then has to forfeit ,Alabama will clame it as a national title

zjc, you are all over the map bro! We had the facilities, the fanbase, the money with ONeill, Green and Buzz....um, how successful were we?
I disagree with the recruiting base and the success, upgrading of the facilities and increased fanbase are all due to Bruce.

I'm not saying that Bruce is the ONLY coach that can be successful, but too many UT fans think the next hire WILL produce instant success that Bruce had. It may happen but history and odds say that it won't.

Who's all over the map? You go from saying all that stuff was here the whole time to saying all that stuff was upgraded when Pearl got here.

The reason no one cared about UT basketball before was because of Doug Dickey; because he didn't care about basketball. Answer this, who else has wanted Houston, Green, or Peterson since they were fired from UT? And it's not because they failed at UT, it's because no one wanted them BEFORE UT. The one coach Dickey hired that is any good, O'Neil, has had no problems finding work since and left because of the idiot that hired him.

It's kind of obvious a lot of you only think you know the history of UT basketball; your depth of knowledge is as shallow as a wading pool.

They weren't "just fishing." They had the evidence. They wanted to see what the suspect's explanation was. It's Investigatory Technique 101.

First hint of justice comes down! A wonderful day in Big Orange Country! I hope the NCAA suspends him for a year and post season ban so it will force UT to fire Bruce! He is a liar and a cheater and needs to be treated as such! One step closer to me embracing the basketball vols once more!

We sure don't need fans like you, but, your a troll and not a fan to begin with.:finger3:

Truthful ones who refuse to place Pearl above the interests of the institution, itself, and the millions of Tennesseeans whom it is intended to represent?

Are those the fans you'd prefer not to have around?

Perhaps you're mistaken.

Listening to slimeball on 99.1. He said this was a "conference matter". I don't see how he is arriving at that.
