I really can't think of a single bit of precedence of this....ever.

Not justifying what Pearl did, because we all know where I stand on it, but I really hope Slive's fate ends up being roommates in a federal prison with a guy the inmates call Tebow and he makes all of Slive's fantasies come true.

exactly.. we havent even been informed of any official violations from the NCAA

The SEC is not the US Court of Law. The reason Cam Newton is still roaming free is because all information surrounding him is speculation and rumor. Pearl openly admitted lying to the NCAA (although the NCAA already knew he did and he had little choice). To Slive that is an admission of guilt and he acted accordingly. I wont weigh in on the severity because Im really indifferent. It does make that last game (vs. Memphis) a big game for him to win.

Yeah. Keep telling yourself that.

I am going to. The NCAA will take into account all self-imposed sanctions and the league sanctions when making their ruling. I imagine there will be more, albeit I really don't see them adding a lot more.

If you are going to constantly prattle on about how you expect the SEC to be a beacon of compliance, you can't let guys flagarantly disregard rules and lie about having done so.

agree that he is trying to get the newton deal off his back?

Do we think that this was announced now so that the NCAA would have time to consider it in their punishment that gets handed down?

I know that. Just trying to remember this happening anywhere else.

I cant think of anywhere else myself. This could be a good thing if the NCAA sees this as punishment. The NCAA would either suspend him for a season or indefinitely but not conference games. They could view this as an acceptable suspension and only hand down financial and recruiting sanctions now.

Hey guys, random question for you guys: If we get any postseason ban, should Pearl be fired?

I thought the SEC wasn't "in the investigation business". This dude Slive and his operation just gets dirtier every time he opens his mouth. Clear double standards and self interested behavior anytime this office does anything. Sure Pearl should be punished. But why pretend like the league can't do anything about the CONFESSED solicitation of payment for an athlete? I could've taken this without a volnation rant if it weren't for the glaring inconsistency in the interpretation of the rules, and application of punishment for violating them. He pretends that the league can't move on Newton and Auburn until the NCAA is finished. But then moves on Pearl before the NCAA. What am I missing?

In our case, the school and the coach made the confession.

they aren't investigative. apparently the NCAA communicated with them the facts of the case and Slive made this ruling based on that.

LWS, is this the ruling for his NCAA infractions? If this is the worst to happen coming out of this mess then I'm fine with it.

this is just the SEC and I will be shocked if NCAA accepts a league penalty. My guess is NCAA adds to this
