The timeline means nothing. He would have made the contact well before the inquiry late in the summer not after.

He was contacting cooper in the summer of 10. He was meeting with tr NCAA in June of 2010, what are you saying?

That there's no chane they overlapped?

Contact of a transfer would have been April or May right after the season. According to your timeline BP was aware of the NCAA in June.

Nobody has ever transferred schools in june or July?

And since we're being technical, summe starts June 21st(ish). So by saying Cooper was recruite summer of 2010 would mean after June 21st.

Fwiw he met with the NCAA June 14, 2010.

Contact would have more than likely made in april or may as the semester ended for a potential transfer than in the summer but it could have be at anytime that why I said it doesn't matter. I don't care to be honest. I think Pearl was always on the line of cheating and to be honest I think that is a prerequisite of winning at the highest level of hoops.

As I edited above...

Summer begins June 21st, and supposedly it was summer of 10' he contacted cooper.

He met with the NCAA June 14, 2010.

Maybe he contacted him earlier as well, but he supposedly was in contact with copper post June 21st which means AFTER his meeting with the NCAA.

A far as cheating being a prerequisite no I don't agree. Are you saying coach k cheats?

I feel safe assuming the contact was before the date with the NCAA. As for Coach K, yes he has very recently broken NCAA rules. The kid from Clarksville I believe was involved.

Does anything specifically say June 21st? Couldn't summer just as easily be referencing the academic calendar which could put the contact in May?

From what I read yes. Coaches and athletes call anytime after the season or school year the summer. That was my point.

It could be, I was just using summer dates.

In any regard, it was another violation and pearl swore that he hadn't done anything else.

I'm very glad we have wiped our hands clean of this guy.

Does it matter whether it was March, April, May, or June? I'm sure Pearl knew about the impending NCAA meeting well before June. Dude didn't care and he was getting reckless because he thought he was king.

I am glad we have CM for sure but I expect him to closely straddle that line of compliance. I would hope he wouldn't directly contact a kid like this but I do expect him to put out untraceable feelers to gauge interest from kids like this that can help us win.

None of this surprises me. So while he was lying to the NCAA he was illegally recruiting a current Ohio player and "bumping" into high school kids...classy. Hopefully the NCAA just considers all of this water under the bridge.

I thought he ended up being cleared of that?

In any regard, that's a secondary violation in which he offered a scholarship to a player during a dead period iirc. That's in now way cheating blatantly, and gaining any sort of advantage from it. It was more of just mishandling the incredibly lengthy rules of the NCAA.

What pearl did with copper is a blatant cheating move, and you are clearly trying to gain an advantage by what you're doing. I don't think the same could be said for the coach k situation.

Right now this is one kid's word against another's. Nothing more and nothing less. There is nothing in this article that compels a reasonable person to necessarily believe one more than another.

Let's move on people. Bruce is gone and not coming back. Glad he resurrected our dead program while he was here.

Who are the 2 kids words???

This is dj cooper saying pearl recruited him, nobody is arguing that in this article. I see no reason why after a huge game for cooper, ad his team going to the sweet 16, that he'd randomly decide to fabricate a story against pearl. I mean really?

Whether or not anything comes of this story well see, but I'm sorry this is probably very true guys.

Why would he make up this story, at this point of the year and name pearl who isn't even coaching anymore? I mean what possible motivation would he have todo this right now? C'mon guys.

Don't know if it makes a difference but the kid didn't name schools or names. Mom said Baylor, dad says UT.

This is from DJ COOPER, and he names both schools:

“That [Tennessee and Baylor] was about it,” D.J. Cooper said Sunday night after the victory.

He doesn't name the schools again here but he talks about how he was being recruited while at Ohio...“It was surprising, being my first experience, that schools were wanting me to come play for their programs,” D.J. Cooper said. “I didn't want to do that. I wanted to stick with Ohio and Coach [John] Groce.

“I didn't think about leaving. It's about loyalty. I'm sticking with Coach Groce, he believed in me from the start. I didn't listen to any of that [transfer talk]. I just focused on getting better as a sophomore.”
