What I'm learning from this thread is that a lot of people have some major built up hate for pearl.

Is he sleazy? Yes. Did he elevate our program? Yes. Do we really need to keep arguing either of those points? No. He's gone and we have a great new coach.

I would have thought coopers number would have come up in the phone records that incriminated pearl in excessive contact violations.

We self imposed penalties on the BBQ gate and the bump, and that was it. Likewise, the NCAA looked at our case as one with the BBQ incident and later the bump. If it is proven that Pearl also had this violation on his record we could hear something. Add in that possible the compliance department could be proven to have known something, and we definitely are hearing something from the NCAA. Also, if phone calls are proven to have occurred from Pearl AFTER meeting with the NCAA, that also would be a big issue.

Do I think this comes back on tennssee? No not really.

Is there a chance it could? Absolutely.

About the same chance as ut had to get in the ncaa tourney when you started to hype that there was still a chance, though it was 0%.

The people who continue bash Pearl are douchebags. When all is said and done, he was a bigger part of the Vols than you will ever be. You had no problem riding his coattails when he was winning but he gets fired and a bunch of you turn on him. It's not like he really hurt the program, at all. The only thing he did that hurt the program was leaving it. We were a better team with him than we had ever been and you're as big of liar as you are a traitor if you don't believe that. Making it the only Elite 8 speaks for itself. It may not be the most impressive feat in the world but it's more impressive than anything else the basketball team has ever done. Six straight tournament appearances, half of which resulted in Sweet 16 appearances.

I support any and all of our coaches. They'd have to do something worse than anything Pearl did for me to turn on them. It's disgusting how many of you continue to bash a guy you used to pay to see win games. You think he's so horrible and claim that you always knew he was but as long as he won, you didn't care. When we lose, a lot of you don't show up anymore. A bunch of hypocrites.

This is Martin's team and I hope it remains his team. I like Pearl but I've moved on, why can't you? It gets old seeing all of the trash spewed about him. Dude's a playa if he stole that many girlfriends.

I like coach Pearl and pretty much thought it was silly for him to lie about the BBQ. I have made no comments negative to Pearl on here. However, it is beginning to seem he lied about the BBQ because he knew there was so much more that could be dug up. I really don't know and don't care and wish we would just move on. He did alot of great things and it appears he did some bad things. He will be judged by time and it seems he was a guy who did too many things the wrong way in my opinion. He made alot of money doing it so I have a hard time feeling bad for him. It is probably good he is gone. You heard of kiafied.............maybe he got Kiffinfied.

Really?

Your gonna take shots at me for being optimistic about something then say there was 0% chance. There was a chance, albeit a very small one, that this team could have made the tourney. If you choose not to believe that then that's fine I don really care, but why criticize others for being optimistic?

As far as this whole thing goes, I have said that I dont think UT will get hit with anything from it. BUT, there is always a chance and it's not great publicity. Go google the story and look at how many sites and forums are already discussing it and how slimy Tennessee basketball was. It's not good publicity, whether or not it comes back on Tennessee, it doesn't help the image.

Oh youre right I'd love to see the program get hammered, howd you know? That really goes right along with what Spart was saying about me. He's telling me I'm too optimistic when I'm rooting for Tennessee to have a chance at the NCAA this year. Then you're sitting there telling me I'm basically hoping the program gets te death penalty. Seems like you two have very different opinions as far as which end Of the spectrum I'm actually on.

One of you is saying I should get a life instead of hyping tennessees chances for the NCAA. The other is saying I should get a life instead of hoping the program fails and gets the death penalty....SMH

I'm sorry your idol was about as sleazy as calipari and that more crap continues to come out about him. I know this must be hard on you. I'm appreciative for everything that Pearl did as far as putting the basketball program back on the map. Also, all the renovations to TBA and the building of Pratt that came along with the success e brought. However, that doesn't mean I'm not happy he's gone, and that I feel we are better without him. This article was brought up because it has to do with Tennessee basketball, an this is the Tennessee basketball forum. This wasn't a random thread with no backing just to start talking about Pearl, it was an interview that was brought up last night.

If news came out say about Tobias Harris recruitment, should we not discuss it since he's gone? It still has an effect on Tennessee, so yea I'm sorry but it's probably going to be brought up and discussed.

No btn, it has nothing to do with optimism. It's about drama when there doesn't need to be. Tn was out of the tourney with the ole miss loss and there was zero chance they were in. There is also zero chance UT is investigated because of this.

And you and whomever that continues to mention "hero" and "idol" look like little girls when you start that crap. That is so tired. Knowthevols didn't kiss bps ass in anyway in this thread and has shown his support for cm, but a couple of you want to pick a fight, for whatever ****ing reason.

I'm not picking a fight I came in this thread to discuss the topic not fight. He started basically accusing Cooper of being a liar and saying this was just him looking for attention, that was my issue.

As far as the hyping goes, I NEVER said after that loss that I thought we'd get in. I very simply, For those who wanted to hope/pray, provided a link to a bracketologist who had us in. I NEVER said I thought we'd get in, and I believe I even said I don't think we will get in, but it was still something to talk about.

Not true. Look at my post again because you missed the question marks at the end of my post. Like golf posted about the NCAA would have gone over the coaching staffs phone calls with a fine toothed comb and it would have shown up. I have some ocean front property over in Sequathie county I could let you have cheap.

Exactly. Let bygones be bygones. Pearl isn't coming back and the NCAA got their men. Some people want to pick at a scab because they have too much damn time on their hands.
