Bruce Pearl with another recruiting violation? Say it ain't so

Who are the 2 kids words???

This is dj cooper saying pearl recruited him, nobody is arguing that in this article. I see no reason why after a huge game for cooper, ad his team going to the sweet 16, that he'd randomly decide to fabricate a story against pearl. I mean really?

Whether or not anything comes of this story well see, but I'm sorry this is probably very true guys.

Why would he make up this story, at this point of the year and name pearl who isn't even coaching anymore? I mean what possible motivation would he have todo this right now? C'mon guys.

Excuse me. One kid's word (Cooper) vs. Pearl's expected denial (the article says nothing about trying to contact either of the coaches being implicated to deny or admit this stuff). Yes I know his parents have chimed in too during this period of his 15 minutes of fame.

Funny how we are only now hearing about this supposed recruiting event, don't you think?

But please, be my guest and believe it all you want. If this story goes no further than this it will be the end of it and rightfully so.

We don't make constant buzz peterson/Houston topics do we? Can we finally grow the hell up with all this stuff and leave it alone?

Not every recruiting violation pops up immediately, sometimes it is a year before something is said.

So you feel that this story is being fabricated by dj cooper and his parents against Drew and Pearl? And that there is no truth to it?

Not necessarily. What I said is that right now this is nothing unless there is more to corroborate what is being said in that article by Cooper and family. One person's word vs. another is not the stuff NCAA sanctions are made of.

IIRC, one of the things that got Pearl in trouble over the cookout was that there was corroborating proof (photos) that the recruits were at the cookout and then Pearl lied about it.

I think the reason for this is because it could still come back on Tennessee.
Don't be so dumb. None of this will hurt Tennessee. Now if Pearl was still employed by Tennessee, it would. Here it is two seasons past all that mess, and now the kid lets it out. Smells fishy to me.

You both are forgetting something....

If Pearl was found guilty of this and proven, and the compliance department was proven to have known you better believe wed be hearing from the NCAA.

We self imposed penalties on the BBQ gate and the bump, and that was it. Likewise, the NCAA looked at our case as one with the BBQ incident and later the bump. If it is proven that Pearl also had this violation on his record we could hear something. Add in that possible the compliance department could be proven to have known something, and we definitely are hearing something from the NCAA. Also, if phone calls are proven to have occurred from Pearl AFTER meeting with the NCAA, that also would be a big issue.

Do I think this comes back on tennssee? No not really.

Is there a chance it could? Absolutely.

No, but it's we're NCAA starts to get involved.

Id almost guarantee that the NCAA will be in touch with the cooper family tomorrow. Very simply, they will pull up phone records from coopers family from the phone line they say pearl contacted them on. I guarantee they still have the number and records from all of Pearls throw away phones they were using so it should be relatively quick and easy to collaborate this story if it is indeed true.

There is a chance the world will end December 21, 2012, but I am still planning to go and see UT play hoops during the 2012-13 season and I am going to keep saving to retire someday.

This is from DJ COOPER, and he names both schools:

“That [Tennessee and Baylor] was about it,” D.J. Cooper said Sunday night after the victory.

He doesn't name the schools again here but he talks about how he was being recruited while at Ohio...“It was surprising, being my first experience, that schools were wanting me to come play for their programs,” D.J. Cooper said. “I didn't want to do that. I wanted to stick with Ohio and Coach [John] Groce.

“I didn't think about leaving. It's about loyalty. I'm sticking with Coach Groce, he believed in me from the start. I didn't listen to any of that [transfer talk]. I just focused on getting better as a sophomore.”

Dont know if you're aware of this but brackets indicate words that he didn't use, only words he's referencing. In all likelihood someone talked to his parents and asked him "Did any schools besides UT or Baylor contact you?"

So, no he didn't name those schools in that quote.

I am not in the business of guarantees. What does it really mean when one guarantees? I will just let my Yes be Yes and No be No.

I will just say that I do not think UT has anything to worry about from this. I will just say it the same way I told all my good friends last year that Bruce would be fired when no one wanted to believe it.

Most likely, those school names were supplied in the question he was responding to or were mentioned somewhere earlier in the interview. Just my best guess.

Yes I do know that but his quote was preceded by this...Donell and Dionne Cooper, D.J.'s parents, also told CBSSports.com after Ohio's 62-56 victory Sunday against South Florida that Tennessee and Baylor were among the schools that tried to get their son to transfer.

So when he says yea that's about it, he is saying Tennessee and Baylor, that's about it as far as schools that were illegally recruiting me. He is confirming those schools as schools that recruited him in that quote. So yes, in a round about way he does name those schools.

Exactly.

The previous quote was his parents naming Tennessee and Baylor. Then dj himself confirms those schools when he says "that was about it".

As ive said I don't think UT will get hit with anything either

But...I was simply saying it is possible. If its proven the school knew about this that'd be a big issue.

So he randomly picks Bruce Pearl to name? Your hero was a fraud and not the upstanding coach you imagined...I'm sorry you are having to go through this.

the only difference between pearl and many other coaches is that he got caught cheating.

Well Baylor is still in the NCAA tournament and the same coach he named is still there -- let the NCAA bloodhounds go to Waco jezzzz

Pearlophiles just can't seem to grasp that their savior wasn't so perfect after all. The big bad world is out to get their man, to them.

Didn't they contradict themselves in the same article....they said baylor and Tennessee was about it........then later on stated they were shocked at how many schools were trying to get him behind ohios back.....its another witch hunt article by cbs that you will never hear from again.
