It has never been so abundantly clear to me that you just disagree with the style Bruce plays rather than his actual coaching. Yes, uptempo pressing basketball does seem to work for the long haul. Maybe ask Rick Pitino about that. Yea, and I forgot, the flex offense doesn't work, but then there is that guy Gary Williams who won a NC with it. If you just hate his style, that is one thing, but it is so obvious that everything you say is biased against Bruce Pearl.

Kentucky pressed less than they ever did under Pitino in '96. He readily admits that. Funny that's the year they won the National Title. Had to be a conicidence. Gary gave Juan Dixon and Steve Blake freedom to improvise to the point that what they were running then was a Hell of a lot closer to a motion offense than it was a pure flex. While we're on that point, how's the flex treated Gary since Dixon and Blake left College Park? What has Al Skinner won? How many titles did the patron saint of the flex Tom Davis win?

You are right Hat. Just because Pitino pressed less in '96 completely disproves the point that uptempo basketball is sustainable because those other 4 final fours he made really don't count. I guess I'm also just imagining things when I see them press all the time this year and they are the #1 overall seed, regular season and tourney champs in the best conference in basketball. And Gary William's seven sweet 16's, two elite eights, 2 final fours, NC, and being the fifth winningest coach in acc history is purely because of Juan Dixon and Steve Blake. Now I understand Hat.

i really just dontget how bruce pearl gets so bashed by people on here and especially you hat. i understand you may not like the guy, or may not like the way he coaches orhis particular style BUT HE HAS WON. he is the greatest thing to happen to UT basketball EVER probably, and sure as hell within recent memory. Whether or not coach pearls style of play will bring a championship or not is not my arguement(which i do believe it can) but its simply, what do you want from the guy? He inherits a team that was garbage, they were pathetic at best, couldnt pack tba and got no exposure wha so ever. he comes in and has them in the ncaa tourney his first year, then tops that with back to back tourney appearances, and then takes a step back this year and gets knocked out in round one. im as mad about the year being over as anyone, and i did expect more tha this but gve the guy a break honestly. take this year ad compare it to what bruce inherited... a team that was lucky to go .500 and to mae it out of the first round of the NIT??? Compare this year to that and you wouldt exactly call this a down year, and a crappy coaching job. it seems the problem lies in the fact that bruce pearl won too soon and had to much success, its almost as if year one should have sucked and been a nit team that made it t the semis year two make the big dance and get out bounced in round one then year 3 make it out of round 1 then this year make the sweet 16. if that was the case i think alot of these haters wouldbe saying were on the rise and would approve of pearl. so we had a bad year(which as i explained really isnt that bad), is that not allowed???last tme i checked its been awhile since duke has been t a final 4, that must mean there on the decine, should coach k be fired. if unc doesnt win this year should roy be fired too? i understand what is being said that his style doesnt win but yu know what it wins more than buzzs style, ad it actually draws interest and has done good things for the university whether you want t admit it or not. i agree if in 3 years the results show we have made 3 ncaa and not made a sweet 16 or made 1 sweet 16 and bounced twice on day 1 tha yea then there needs to be a change, but you need to give the man time. as i said maybe he shouldt have been so succesful so quickly and we wouldt hae this problem, but he was and im actually glad its bee exciting. All my point is is tha yes this was a dissapointing year, yes we all wanted more, yes certain times this team looked like they didnt know what the were doing, but give it time. you cant judge somebody on one year, and as i said this one year is better than what it used to be pre pearl. we have grown accustom to success and hold tennessee basketball to a higher standard now which is fine and dandy but if you have one down year yu dont call for the coachs head.

I'm not debating that Tom Davis is the best coach of all time; I am debating that people have had sustained success with the flex, like Gary Williams, and people have had sustained success with uptempo basketball; therefore, it is simply untrue to say the only style of basketball that could produce sustained success is the grind it out halfcourt ball that Gillespie runs.

Last time I checked, the university was cutting programs and allowing faculty positions to go unfilled. Not sure what these great things for the school has allegedly done are.

Yeah, I've noticed all the instructor positions he's saved. Pearl has been good for the Athletic Department. He hasn't done the first thing of significance for the University.

ok and thats nothis job neither is impriving the whole athletic department or bringing recognition to them 2 things in which he has done. the renovations of tba and construction of pratt are because of bruce. they are improvements for the lady vols to practice in and to play in. bruce earns this school alot more money than they had been making as wel, add on the luxury boxes that are in tba and thats a nice cunk of change for the university. he has brought exposure to the iniversity as a whole, not just basketball he is always quick to mention the football team, and recently mentioned the womens indoor track and field. as i stated whether you like him or not he has done good things for the university, alot more tha buzz ever did, and alot more than good ole billy boy up in lexington(well i dont know he has brought them alot of publicity, first time in 18 years not in the ncaa, not sure if thats the publicity that id want though).
