Bryce Brown Announcement

Good to know the Tigers didn't want BB anyways and Michael Ford was always the better back. That site is tough to handle. I don't see how other trolls do it.

I couldn't believe it either,...He said "when we beat Florida this year, it's going to be fun, get ready"

Ok, that's just shy of a guarantee,

please finish the quote and see if you still get the same idea about his "guarantee"

Wichita East running back Bryce Brown ended weeks of suspense Monday by picking the University of Tennessee.

Miami, the school he original committed to and the team his brother Arthur already plays for, in the end wasn't even his second choice.

K-State turned out to be the first runner-up.

"I asked God to reveal it to me, to give me a sign," Brown, the Wichita City League's all-time rushing leader, said.

The sign came, he said, last weekend during his second visit to Tennessee. That's when he got to watch the team practice and, Brown said, finally saw enough of new coach Lane Kiffin's offense to know that was what he was looking for.

"Before I left, I knew I was going to be a Volunteer," Brown said.

Brown's announcement was made at the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame and he was flanked by his brother and father, with his mother and advisor Brian Butler also at a head table placed in front of about 20 other athletes associated with Butler's Potential Players organization.

He revealed his choice by reaching into a bag for a team hat. He pulled out a Miami hat, fumbled with it for a second and handed it to Arthur Brown, saying "I'll let you have that down there."

Then Brown pulled out an orange Tennessee baseball cap and put that on his head.

Brown hinted that it would not be Miami earlier in his remarks, when he thanked his family for letting him make his own decision even though he knew how much his brother wanted him to play with him and how much his mother wanted them to go to the same school. He thanked his father, Arthur Sr., for being a peacemaker as he and his mother argued about the choice.

Brown said K-State coach Bill Snyder's age - 69 - was not a factor in his decision. Though it sounded like it was.

Brown said some older coaches are set in their ways whereas Kiffin's youth, at 33, makes him "more open to his players."

Kiffin will be in his first season at Tennessee after serving as head coach of the Oakland Raiders and offensive coordinator at Southern California.

Brown also said he thought the Tennessee coaching staff had the experience to best prepare him to play "at the next level."

"I wanted to go to a place where the coaches are going to put a lot of pressure on me to work hard," he said.

Ok, that's just shy of a guarantee,

Now, what he should say is, "we're going to work really hard to be competitive, when you look at our schedule, it isn't easy, like UF in gainesville this year, 2 time champs, talented, well coached, brutal...but I promise we will leave it all on the field, we will compete"

That's coach speak 101...Urban is going to teach him the hard way...It's a fundamental and moral truth....

He wasn't hired "to be competitive" or to "compete," he was hired to win.

Remember that article about Coach O turning around USC's program by landing some really highly rated stud in Pete Carroll' first year? What just happened today?? :)

Our Premium boards were saying that Jackson was reaffirming his commitment to our sources and his Dad the day before said he wanted to be a Tiger.. Locals said they talked to Jackson and said he was still LSU.. So it was a campaign to mislead LSU..no question...just like Nuke' story from Kiffin, "go back and tell them your still committed to UF"

Know we know JJ's Dad knew weeks ahead of time..

The Mom being late from California, was legit, but it was a run around to get Myles...

We are over it now, but when it comes up, it does chap our butts :)

I must have missed that interview or article. Do you have a link?

I still don't buy this Myles/Jackson thing and lying to each other and worrying about them being concerned about the other signing.

1.) Morley's graduating after this season.
2.) Berry's probably going to go pro after this season.
3.) If BOTH players want to play safety, guess what? For sometime now in football, there have been two safeties on defense! Are you going to honestly tell me that Myles or Jackson is going to have a dead-set preference on playing free or strong?

Bogus.

There's room for both guys. Jackson may have to play some corner this year if he wants to play as a freshman, but if safety is what he really wants to do then I wouldn't freak out about Darren Myles.

Vol Nation will likely be glad to hear that the next Oregon v. UT argument will require considerably less space, and far-less verbiage.

It'll go something like this:

1. Bryce.
2. Brown
3. March 16th, 2009
4. Done.

In all honesty, while Wheaton and the rest were somewhat out of place here, they share the same passion that we pride ourselves on, only for Oregon instead of the Orange.

That they have hung on this site for almost two months, and considering everything that has been thrown at them (fairly and unfairly) speaks to the pride which they have in their team - and most everyone will respect them for that effort, if for nothing else.

Even now, after having suffered back-to-back post-NSD heartbreakers (Pryor last season, Brown this year), Oregon is unquestionably a program on the upswing, and barring the unforseen, should only continue to get better and better. If the tenacity and desire of their fans even somewhat rubs off onto their players, I think that it could continue to happen much sooner than most imagine IMO.

While lost in the heat of the argument, it's easy to make one school "great" and the other "crap" - and that's really not the case, at least in a comparison between Oregon and Tennessee.

Amidst the celebration of landing Brown, I just wanted to tip the proverbial cap to a worthy foe who fought a valiant fight, now that the fog of war has begun to fade.

maybe a little dramatic...but very well said nonetheless. :hi:

It doesn't matter what CLK says. It will have no bearing in the game. IF UM can hang 50 on us he will. Its no different than any other year. What did CPF say to the 50 hung on his team in 07?

That being said, what has changed is this... If UT can hang 50 on your team they will. CLK will not stop trying to score unlike CPF.

And Lane Kiffin did this all in 2-3 months!!!! Can't wait to see next year's recruiting class!

"Rocky Top you'll always be home sweet home to me......."

Apex, you occassionally stumble across some thoughts that almost seem remotely coherent (if one squints when reading them), and if not, can at least be somewhat entertaining - but consider how this makes you (and your "school") look to a non-LSU fan:

A New Jersey Tiger fan....on a Vol message board....begging for the Florida coach to "teach us the hard way"......

It doesn't make you appear confident, but rather, like you are both weak and scared - with a mouthful of sour grapes. And corndogs.

Represent both yourself and your school better than that, man. Man up, tell us, "Congratulations" on landing Brown and go about your business.

You've got more than enough to worry about outside of either Tennessee or now, Bryce Brown....like third downs, for example.

I'd be keeping an eye on those, at least for as long as I could stomach it.

I lost you...what?

I quoted his quote...

"When we beat UF this year, it's going to be fun, get ready"

What does this say to you?

What coach talks like this?

pete Caroll? Nope
Saban? Nope
Miles? Nope
Urban? Nope
Richt? Nope
Vest? nope
Bobby Bowden? nope
Jo Paw? nope
Butch Davis? nope
Rich Rod? nope
Nutt? nope
Petrino? nope
Mack Brown? nope
Bob Stoops? maybe at one time, but I doubt it
Spurrier? Not even SS in his prime of dominance

I can't think of one coach who talks like this, and the coaches I mentioned have some big time accomplishments...

So you see, this kind of talk from a coach that is 0-0 is just plane silly... If you can't see this, well I just chalk it upt to being a homer....Who cares right?

he is doing a great job recruiting...I tip my hat

but I won't root for him because he has made it impossible to like him from day one..

Umm...actually "the vest" did say something similar about Michigan when he was hired.

haha exactly. Apex is not very bright :eek:k:

I wouldnt say that. He seems like a good guy to me. As Vol fans, we HAVE to realize what we would think of Kiffin if he had taken, say, the LSU job....or the UGA job, and caused such a stir and called our coach a cheater. We wouldnt like it, and we would call him an idiot, and everyone on this board knows it. We support him cause he is our guy and we believe in him. Respect from other programs will come just the way USC gained it back.....by winning.

Hey, I am just bored and having fun with you.. I did give props on brown earlier

I am being honest, in the same way you can't wait to Miles fall because you don't think he can coach, I feel the same way about your coach not because he can't coach, but because he runs his mouth...simple as that..

I still like UT, I love the SEC...It's awesome
