Bryce Brown Announcement

I think landing Bryce really helps our case for landing Blake Bell in 2010. Geez, Bryce Brown, Blake Bell, Barry Brunetti. We could be like the Houston Astros in the late 90s.

The fact that he didn't end up at Oregon makes the point moot, I'd think. I mean, what's the significance? You can tell us he wanted to go to Oregon till you're blue in the face, but the address on the LOI is all that matters.

If points like that were moot, I would think that the school that got Brown wouldn't dedicate entire threads to what other teams are saying.

For having landed Brown, a lot of you sure sound like you didn't.

Well, duh. Of course it's not. It "happens" much more consistently here than anywhere else, however.

No. I'm referring to large fan bases happening, like in Oregon.

Wheaton they will probably fly to UT also.:)

I'm pretty sure that a flight from Knoxville to Miami is a lot less expensive than a flight from Eugene to Miami. And in reverse.

Also, my understanding was that they were going to relocate depending on where Bryce went. So, maybe they're going to look for somewhere that makes it easier to go to both schools events.

But c'mon bro, be honest....how do you think that Oregon would fair playing an SEC schedule?

I think that Oregon could have had the same record, 10-3, in the SEC.

Just to make sure I'm not misinterpreting your words, feel free to elaborate.

For whatever reason, white kids on average are not as competitive at the next level. Oregon is not very diverse demographically. So, the state doesn't turn out as many D1 athletes. As a result, it's not known as much of a recruiting hotbed. Relatively lower population doesn't help either.

You know that now you pretty much have to come down here in 2010, Wheaton.

I'd love to. It's not out of the question as I'm floating around in that direction at least once a year. But, just have to see how finances are, etc. around that time.

Oregon 10-3 in the SEC aint no way thats gonna happen sorry to burst your bubble.

Who do you think would beat them?

There isn't a team in the SEC that they wouldn't have at least a shot against, especially at Autzen. I would put them as a favorite over every team there but Florida and Alabama actually.

And I'm sorry to burst YOUR bubble. But, the final rankings reflect that.

OK wanna talk about rankings

2008 UT Not Ranked Oregon 10
2007 UT 12 Oregon 23
2006 UT 25 Oregon Not Ranked
2005 UT not ranked Oregon 12
2004 UT 10 Oregon Not Ranked
2003 UT 15 Oregon Not Ranked
2002 UT or Oregon Not ranked
2001 UT 7 Oregon Not Ranked
2000 UT 21 Oregon 13

Looks like we beat you in that too. Oregon not ranked 5 times in the past 9 years UT not ranked 3 times in the past 9 years. And when we where both ranked at the same time you only out ranked us once out of the two times that we where so we are split on that one.

Mississippi State would have probably have beat you guys.:)

lol

Nice subject change there. You spout off about how Oregon wouldn't do well in the SEC. I point out that they ranked higher than all but two teams in the SEC and then you move the goalpost to start talking about the last 10 years.

The collective belief in the industry, reflected by the polls is that they would not.

In fact, if Oregon would schedule cupcake OOC games as is customary in the SEC, according to the polls, they would have done BETTER than they did with their actual schedule (11-2 instead of 10-3).

And how many NCs do you have again?

lol

How many NC titles is the current UT staff and players responsible for? That's right homie!

All right. I'm done. You're like a broken record. Can't make a rational argument about the here and now so you resort to jacking off to past accolades even though I already conceded that UT has more.

The fact that you are here illustrates the following:
1. You're suffering from Tennessee envy.
2. You are a closet Vol fan
3. Your duck site is maintained on a Commodore 64 computer and you can't stand being there.

Most sane people have come to realize that the polls are a joke as far as gauging a team's overall strength. They serve a purpose unfortunately, so we have to be cognizant of them and hope the voters decide they like "your" team more than they like another.

Spurrier voting Duke in at #25 every year (not sure if he did this past year) shines a light on how they're subject to the whims of biased individuals. If you can, find the last poll of the year, when the coaches votes are made public, and you'll see they're pretty much all over the place.

Just because you're higher in the poll doesn't mean you're the better team. Reference: tOSU

Not at all. I came here originally for Brown info. Then was encouraged to stick around by a number of class Vol fans.

But, keep on trumpeting whatever tune floats your boat, band guy.

I think you are absolutely incorrect. Most sane people have come to realize that the polls are not 100% accurate. That is much different than saying that they are a complete joke.

As you point out, many people have different ideas on who is good and sometimes coaches do some whacky things with their votes. That's why they include lots of people in addition to coaches voting along with multiple computer models. So that the outliers are averaged out.

The polls offer us the best consensus available. It's not absolutely perfect. But, I think it was right about Oregon over Georgia. Even if it wasn't, that would only make Oregon 10-3 rather than 11-2 on the season and my point would still stand.

pretty sure Moreno would have ran all over you this past year... We are talking about last year, right?

Yes. Last year. I'm sure that Moreno would have gotten his share. Just not as many as Blount and Johnson.
