Thaxton, Georgia and Thompson with legal issues all within a year. Another transfer yesterday.
Culture problems? Chaos in Knoxville? Pruitt lost control?
I think the answer to all of those questions is NO. But I’ve spent months reading about this being applied to Florida for the same exact issues.
These players who get accused are innocent until proven guilty. Young men do dumb things. No program is immune to players making bad choices.
Every single player that has been merely accused, not charged, but accused at UF has been kicked off the team, due in large part to outside pressure. I think taking away Thompson’s presumption of innocence and booting him off the team would be a bad precedent, just like I’m concerned about some of the guys UF let go without any charges even being filed, let alone any conviction.
Will be interesting to see how Pruitt and the University handle this.

Lol. You had a transfer from a kid who never had a chance to step on the field because he was a true freshman. Recruited by Mullen.
And? Not sure what your point is. So there are levels of transfers now, some acceptable some unacceptable? If it’s a true freshman from across the country who’s not adjusting well and is homesick, that’s somehow worse than another kid who transfers for a different reason?
Be honest and be consistent. If Florida is in “chaos” because they’ve had 2 or 3 kids with issues with the law (all cases with charges dropped), and they’ve had 10 or 11 transfers, what about Tennessee who’s also had a few kids in trouble with the law and have had 9 or 10 transfers of their own? Or Georgia. Or LSU. Or dozens of other teams.
What’s the difference?
I hope Thompson plays, truly do. I’m simply pointing out how ridiculous and overblown the nonsense was all offseason long about UF’s “issues.”
Kirk Herbstreit seems to think y’all have a discipline problem. That’s all he would talk about last night.
I agree, all I’m saying is that if it was a rival school with this situation some would be calling for a full ncaa investigation but IMO because it’s one of our own we tend to be able to downplay it to the best of our ability so we would feel ok with him playing.Just speak for yourself. I think most of us on here are smart enough to understand this isn't an SEC/NCAA issue.
The blatant late hit out of bounds and the qb doing whatever he was doing on the sidelines moreso than anything. Little rebelsWho can blame him, after game 1, I would agree. Penalties, missed tackles, etc. All equal undisciplined football.
But don’t wanna get off topic on an important thread. This is about Thompson and his issues with the law.
In my opinion, he’s presumed innocent. He deserves due process and everyone should avoid a rush to judgment. And even if he acted like a total idiot and made some serious mistakes, I do not necessarily think he should automatically be kicked off the team. That’s ultimately up to Pruitt/Fulmer and the university.
By the way, I apply the same logic to Florida when they have similar issues. And any UT fan saying “hey, uh, if charges are dropped he should be fine,” should also apply that thought process consistently to other programs, even hated rivals.

Dan catches hell for transfers because he ran his mouth about them first. Most guys won't make fun of another guy because his wife left him for the pool boy. However, if a guy goes around talking about how great he is in bed and how his wife would never leave him, and then she runs off with the pool boy, people will snicker. It's called being hoisted up on your own petard. It's human nature to laugh at such a moron, that's why we laugh at Dan about it.
