Bryce Thompson out - potentially

Checking out the forum this fine Monday morning and am greeted with this news.

It’s ok man. Nothing really bad def decided yet. Have a good breakfast 🍳 and check to see what Pruitt says today at noon. And, as always as a Vol fan, keep that cup on just in case we get another kick to the boys.

Most believe the charges will be dropped and Thompson could possibly play Saturday. In terms of the "shoot up" comment he supposedly made, the direct witness his GF couldn't remember him saying that so at this point it's hearsay from a witness who didn't see Thompson but could some how identify him.
The shoot up comment will not hold up. If charges aren’t dropped his court appearance for general session is Sept 3 I think.

I have no idea if it's related. But that same night, it looked like a ton of the football guys were having a nerf gun fight in the dorm. It seems ridiculous to think someone could see that taking place and hear Bryce talk about 'shooting' , and running with it - but then AJ lost 5 years of his career due to something equally ridiculous. Callaway did tweet "the things people will do for attention". Innocent until proven guilty imo.

Me too, actually, but not for the reason you think. I think Mullen has been way too quick to kick kids off the team who haven’t even been charged with anything. Mullen is 3 for 3 on booting kids, that’s a zero tolerance approach. What more would you like from Mullen in addition to zero tolerance, in terms of cleaning up a culture? Personally, I wish he’d give more chances to guys, like Pruitt did with Kenneth George. Mullen seems to be getting rid of players due to public pressure. I prefer the Saban approach, run the program and block out all outside influences on your decisions.
Mullen’s zero tolerance off the field doesn’t seem to translate to discipline on the field. To me anyway. Hey you asked.

What a bunch of butt hurt enablers...you, originalfade and the others. Jackson wasn't kicked off of the team because he was a murderer or convicted of manslaughter or anything like that. All of that came later. He was kicked off because he was a thug--and you see the end result of that. If I remember correctly, there were some questions regarding Thompson's character when he had already committed to SC. When you go after these kind of guys, you get what you get. I haven't seen anything overly intelligent posted by originalfade since I've been posting, and that's been a few years now.

You’re the one using insults to describe me, fade and “others” because we didn’t think it was a valid comparison to use in a situation that was brand new with a current player. I know JJ wasn’t kicked off for manslaughter, and I know he was clearly a problem before he even played a game. Please don’t attempt to lecture me (key word:attempt) on who has done what or call me an enabler . I’m not going to apologize for wanting our player to have the opportunity to prove their innocence before he gets his life taken away in the court of public opinion from someone like yourself. If wanting due process to play out makes me an enabler then sign me up.

For future reference, when you start using insults to describe other posters it’s an indication that you’re losing an argument before you even got started. You shouldn’t.

Based off one game, I’d agree. Although I think the refs were ridiculously over officious v Miami.

We’ve seen Mullen coach 14 games at Florida now and Saturday was the first time the team didn’t play with proper discipline. I wouldn’t call it a trend yet or make the huge leap to say his teams in general are undisciplined.

his GF was right in front of him and she says she didn't hear it along with supposedly another witness saying the same thing then it shouldn't hold up either

Got me right in the Man Berries.

So wait a minute, did he actually hit anyone or not? I thought assault involved actual laying of hands on another person. Because if assault involves just words then every third grader has assaulted someone

Yeah, common misconception. Assault just means that you threatened someone and the threat gave them a reasonable fear of imminent bodily harm. So, if I said I'm going to smash you with an asteroid right now, that's not assault because it isn't reasonable. If I say, I'm going to beat your ass next week, that's not assault because it isn't imminent. But if I say, I'm going to slap the **** out of you (right now), that can be assault.

On a serious note though. Sometimes you’ve just gotta hit a wall. Some people have tempers that bad (me being one of them) and it’s not easy to get me to that point but when I get there..... sometimes I gotta punch something that won’t get me in trouble lol.... the trick is not to break your hand while doing it.
Even worse if you break your hand when you’re an elite DB. Sounds like this kid is guilty of being an idiot like most kids his age.

If he was a backup he would be gone by now. Do the right thing, i do not want this young man representing us.
The kid overreacted (kind of like you’re doing right now). Get him some therapy, further assess the situation then go from there. He didn’t hit anyone. If every kid that threatened to slap the crap out of someone or “kill” someone was kicked off the team we would have hardly any players left.

First, when these type of disputes occur and the police are called it is almost guaranteed they will arrest one, both or all members of the dispute on "Domestic Assault" charges. Immediately, the parties can't have any contact, of any type, with each other. Secondly, if convicted of "Domestic Assault", much like a felony conviction, the person loses the right to own firearms. Just from reading what occurred, if that is all, I bet these charges are dismissed and Bryce gets some needed counseling. To dismiss him form the team or school is way over the top, IMHO.

"The safety of all students is our first priority here at Tennessee" That statement doesn't bode well for Bryce

Incorrect. It does bode well for him. Because when they say he isn’t a threat to the University they can say the University did the investigation and he made comments he shouldn’t have out of anger.

University is covered, Thompson makes an apology. Boom no harm no foul.
