Bryce Thompson out - potentially

https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/tasneemnashrulla/discord-school-shooting-threat-teen-arrest

If the state of Tennessee handles this situation anything like Florida did for this fifteen year old kid Bryce may have played his last down for Tennessee and didn't even know it at the time. the only saving grace he may find is that only one witness heard him say he was going to shoot up the place. this kid actually typed it....

That kid had means, motive, and the ability. Posted on this yesterday.

Does anyone think Bryce Thompson actually wants to shoot up the campus? Does it make a ton of sense to threaten the school while you are arguing with your girlfriend? Does kicking him out of school make him more or less likely to shoot up the school, hypothetically?

All questions that no one will ask or give a **** about in the investigation process. Unfortunetly, administration in general has become more about mitigating against the perception of individual cases than the cases themselves.

I hear you but in the world we live in:

Thompson was not arrested for the comments. He would need the means, motive, and ability to carry out such comments. If he doesn’t have any of that then there is nothing there.

Saying Bomb on an Airplane is an immediate threat because bombs can be hidden anywhere and can go off at any time.

I admire your dedication to playing devils advocate for him, but I could argue just as easily that a gun could be hidden anywhere and retrieved for use at any time. I'll go on record and say of all the transgressions he is accused of, the "shooting up the school" portion is the most likely to stick and come back to haunt him.

Means = prove he doesn't' have access to a firearm
Motive= he's pissed at his girl, side girl, & witnesses on hall that have given statements
Ability= Last I checked he can still walk and his trigger finger seems still attached.

I think if he said it it was probably just a terrible choice of words in the heat of an argument with probably no real intent to ever act on it,........but it's 2019 with a mass shooting almost every week. If he said it, and they can find enough credibility from a witness I predict he's done at UT. Maybe not in prison but not enrolled any longer.

I hope there is nothing to it and the witnesses didn't hear what they say they heard, but if true you just can't fix stupid.

In prison for a misdemeanor? Lol do you know how the law works? He will not see any prison time for his DA and it will be dropped.

Also, you can’t be put in prison for something you aren’t charged with. (The Threat on the school - if it was even in that context)

He will not be gone from the school. 😂 but it’s nice to see your positive outlook.

Those individuals who shoot up schools are disturbed people. They have usually thought of the idea for a long time and then acted deliberately.

I highly doubt Bryce Thompson has been planning for a shooting at the school and I highly doubt he is a disturbed person. Maybe an angry person at that point in time but not a “disturbed” person.

He would’ve been charged with more than DA if the police or district attorney thought he was a real threat. Additional charges can always be filed as new evidence comes to light but it seems police don’t view that as a legit threat at this time. I would still imagine he’s going to have to go through a thorough mental evaluation before he’s allowed back on the team.

Man, read my post again, and listen to the words you read instead of just waiting for your turn to type, I never said prison for domestic assault. As a matter of fact I purposefully ignored that part of his issue because I see it as the least likely to amount to anything.
Again I also said he would likely not do time for his threat, which I will admit I do not know what level of violation that would be in Tennessee. felony in Florida though.
It could be said that those individuals who tear gates off the wall and put fists through the wall while saying they will shoot up the place are disturbed individuals.

As for my positive outlook, well i hope I am wrong and it all goes away, but I feel like this is the type of situation that the University will be making an example of whether they really want to or not. The more attention the portion about shooting the school up gets by media then the more pressure to "handle it" comes UT's way.

Why in Haiti is Madonna not in jail for publically saying she thought about blowing up the white house? Her intentions were clear when she said that. I agree what he said in the heat of a fight with his girlfriend was stupid and should face some type of punishment, but for her to get off with nothing and for him to possibly get kicked out of school is a BS double standard as far as law enforcement goes. The University does have it's own code of conduct rules, but they should be applied evenly with reference to all students in the same situation. Hollywood types and politicians get away with this all the time and they mean it. How about the Missouri representative tweeting that she hoped Trump would be killed and she is still serving. Kathy Griffin holding a cut off Trump head. The law should not be picking and choosing which ones to prosecute, they should be looking at real intent and if they was truly a intent which can be hard to determine. The question needs to be does Thompson really feel that way if he did say it, or was he just popping off any words that came to his mind during his anger. This was a moment of anger, not like standing on a stage and saying I have thought about blowing up the white house or sitting at your desk and tweeting you hoped someone killed someone. Just random thoughts about these types of things. GBO!!!!

You mean like the attention you keep giving it in here?

Jameis Winston screamed "f*** her in the P*ssy" in the middle of a dinning hall. That was a threat of rape on a young lady and he was suspended for 1 game I believe.

Is there anywhere I can get a list of players we've lost since December to medical retirement, transfer, and suspension?

It is a felony in Florida if those factors are met and an investigation is conducted showing that the individual who made the threat had the intentions and means to do it. You have to have “Probable Cause” to arrest someone.

I get it. Everybody wants him to play but I don't think the University is going to take either threat as lightly as some on here. Now, does that mean they sit him one, three, or six games? Who knows.

If the case is dropped and no charges filed then I don’t think he should get any suspension. So why don’t we wait on that first.

There is a huge difference in saying that on social media, compared to yelling it in a huge fight with your partner.

Because that makes too much logical sense. Here on VN, it’s much better for people to argue back and forth for pages even though they have no clue what’s going on.
