Ticky Tack. Mountain out of Mole Hill. Got up on the wrong side of the bed? Just need to bitch & pizz & moan!!!! This team is trash---Barnes is an idiot!!!!!!! Sheeshyou're free to describe it how you want. to me, wire to wire means you jump out front by 8 to 10 points in the first 10 minutes and it's never in doubt. Miami was right with us through the first half. Tied at 5, tied at 8, tied at 11, tied at 15. they were ahead 25-24. Then as I said, we pulled away and didnt look back after halftime.
They brought it to single digits even late in the 2nd half, and the second half tied with us in points.
You think how you want to, but it was a mediocre effort with a less than average team hanging right with us.
edit: in fact - I dont see how your time advantage listed is even possible. maybe you conflated not losing (tied) with being ahead. otherwise, with at least 5 ties in the game, how does that equal to 35 seconds? so it would be 39:25 of the game ahead/tied for Tennessee instead of "led"
Behind for 1 possession at 24-25. Barnes or TV timeout, and whatever was done caused our D to ratchet up. It was a thing of beauty. Out of 12-15 shots over the next 7+ minutes, Miami took about 2 decent looks at scoring! Everything else was hurried, off balance, turnover, and certainly not what UM wanted. None fell and no trips to the line. Vols 38-25 before they scored again. Masterful.I personally wouldn't describe it as a "wire to wire" victory. We won the 7 minutes before half-time, and maintained that lead through the second half.
It was an ok win over a quad 3 team who likely isn't dancing in March. We've beaten better teams by more this year. Got the job done, keep it rolling, and go Vols
We had 8 schollys last nightA metric for me, while watching the game: did Tennessee look like the #1 team in the country last night? Each can answer this question on their own.
For me, in the game last night, the answer was clearly no.
We definitely are the #1 team by almost every metric, and deservedly from the body of work in the season so far. Last night's performance against Miami just wasn't indicative of #1 in my mind.
edit: didnt think of this, but just looked at the NET rankings. Auburn is now #1 with Tennessee dropping 1 spot. That also seems to confirm that we underperformed last night, since Auburn didnt play
I think we trailed for 30 secondsI personally wouldn't describe it as a "wire to wire" victory. We won the 7 minutes before half-time, and maintained that lead through the second half.

I'll take a shot.Seriously curious what a #1 team should look like game in game out. Will you please expand?
Okpara was outmatched last night in the post. Saw Aidoo play last night and with his health improving, he looks pretty good. This upcoming matchup with Illinois will give us some more answers.Good write up. Very hard to find anything to complain about so far this year. This team has exceeded my expectations in every way to date. Truly, I’m very happy so far and excited about the potential of this team and how well-rounded we seem to be.
I guess for the sake of having something to discuss, my two biggest concerns outside of depth are:
1) Non-Conference Schedule: This isn’t something we can control. We clearly tried to schedule some notable programs, but most of them have turned out to be under-achieving this year. Baylor, in particular, was supposed to be a marquee win. Doesn’t look like they are their normal “elite” this year. Because of that, I’m still not sure how good we are as weird as that sounds. Are we really a Top 5 team? Are we just smoke and mirrors like our opposing fanbases on Twitter are accusing us of being? Will we be battle tested like Auburn, Alabama, and Kentucky have been when we head to conference play? To be clear, I’m not saying we aren’t good. I just really don’t know how to feel about us yet. We lack a signature win like those 3 teams have.
2) Felix Okpara - We don’t need him to be an offensive force, but I do have some concerns. His defense has been mostly fine, but he has had some flashes where opposing bigs bully him in the post. He also hasn’t offered really any offense so far, which I know we don’t need, but in games where the perimeter shot isn’t falling, I do wonder if we’ll have the necessary post play to pick up the slack. I’m not drawing any conclusions on him last night, but he seemed to be struggling more so than usual.
Exactly. He seemed lost defensively. Also had problems offensively. What was concerning about Okpara last night was him allowing the Miami post to repeatedly get great low post position to receive the ball. If yesterday reflects FO’s ability to defend a quality low post scorer, then that’s a glaring weakness in our roster and JP’s injury will be a bigger problem than expected. JMO
It's basketball. Things like that happen. Auburn, who moved to #1 in the net ranking, got up 22-3 on Kent State mid-way through the first half, but only led 41-37 with 15 minutes to go in the game. They blew a huge lead but then re-established it late. Nature of the game.I'll take a shot.
We played dead even with a quad 3 team with a 3-6 record for 30/40 minutes, and fell in the NET rankings.
I would expect the #1 team to not drop in the rankings, and to outplay a subpar team for greater than 50% of the game.
Sure, it happens. Sounds like from your description auburn dominated a majority of the game and kent had a nice short run. It's basketball. Things like that happen. No, Kent State outscored them by 15 points over a stretch of the final 12 minutes of the first half and first 6 minutes of the second half. Auburn had a fast start and big finish and Kent State controlled almost 20 game minutes in the middle.Sure, it happens. That's not what happened with us and Miami.
Also kent is 104 NET with Miami 166.
Take the win and move on. No one is going to describe this as a quality win in March.
Similar to the UK game tonight against Colgate. 17-0, 38-36 at the half, finished up 78-67.It's basketball. Things like that happen. So auburn was better for more than half the game, beat a better team than Miami, and covered the spread during a random game in the middle of November. Sounds like how I described a number 1 team. No, Kent State outscored them by 15 points over a stretch of the final 12 minutes of the first half and first 6 minutes of the second half. Read the first paragraph of BTOs report. 1. "Another wire to wire win over a P4 team", "Tennessee’s defense ratcheted up and they also cooled and Tennessee yet again had a workmanlike performance as they methodically just pulled away from the Canes, never really allowing the outcome to ever be a question."
…errrr, haven’t seen anyone claiming it’s a quality win in the second week of December…

A Power 4 team that required a workmanlike performance to methodically pull away. Funny way to describe a sub-500, Q3 weak team that we didn't cover the spread and led by single digits late in the game
