BTO’s Ole Miss Postgame Report

Clearly our defense is the motor for this team. 2nd half D tonight was some of the best you’ll see. And the rebounding was strong. The obvious point is a need for consistent offense. I’m guessing here…BUT I’m guess Rick and staff are working diligently on it. JMO.

I try not to pile on Uros. He gets enough hate from others. But he was terrible tonight.

I think he's a great teammate and ambassador for the university, and I think he has his moments on the court. But for the level of trash talk he does, his play doesn't even remotely back it up. He's slow, he is generally not very good around the rim, constantly brings the ball down to cancel out his height advantage, and for a 7 footer he has one of the weakest verticals I've ever seen. It's like he has concrete feet.

He can also miss more bunnies than any 7 footer I’ve ever seen. Just not strong around the basket.

Aidoo has a MUCH higher ceiling than Uros and should get some starts because as a rule, they are earned and he is earning it. His hustle plays, blocks and rebounds, won the game for us tonight. He had as many blocks this game as Uros has this year.

He's a wuss offensively. He's often a couple feet from the basket and he kicks it out like a wimp who's afraid of the rim. Coaches like Bob Huggins would chew him out and explain in no uncertain terms that "you're 7 ft tall. Take the damn ball to the rim."

I thought Nkamhoua played well tonight, he just was saddled with foul trouble all night. It limited his effectiveness. He's really our second best player with Jo out, so he really needs to be playing 30 minutes a night. He does need to rebound better, if he's going to play that much (certainly better than tonight at least).

If Jo does come back, at least part of me thinks we can just bench Uros completely. Awaka is more than capable of handling 7-10 minutes for us. It just gives larger roles to Aidoo and Nkamhoua.

Phillips and Key just need to find their rhythm for us to be elite. Key is getting good looks, at some point he just needs to hit them. Phillips just isn't getting the same looks he was earlier in the season. We need to find a way to get him that foul line jumper he's so good at, or some kind of back door cut going towards the rim.

Mashack and Zeigler had good games, and it had almost nothing to do with the offensive end. Zeigler at least chipped in with free throws. Aidoo was really good on both ends. He played 29 minutes tonight, and might have to keep playing about that much.

Uros is a wuss and a wimp?

We have some great fans.

Good win on the road where we’ve struggled recently.

Think offensively we would’ve looked a bit better if ORN didn’t get in early foul trouble, offense started looking ok there for a bit in the second before he picked up his 4th.

In order to reach this team’s ceiling have to hope Phillips starts adjusting to the speed/physicality in the second half of the season. He could be the answer on the offensive end. Add a more consistent zzz, key and ORN and I think we could still improve quite a bit there.

3 blocks? Now do missed assignments on defense.

CRB’s defenses don’t produce big time shot blockers. At least ones that aren’t also giving up lots of dunks and layups. And how many blocked shots just end up going out of bounds or to another offensive player? But they are pretty. Maybe not all that important for sound defensive play though.

How about doing a stat for total screens and moving screens?

TN is statistically one of the best, if not the best defensive team in the country. But let’s beyatch about the blocked shot stats.

Only you would tear down Aidoo just to make Uros seem like a better player. What an awful take.

Without Aidoo tonight, we lose. His defense and effort were great during his many second half minutes. His potential and future at UT are much more important than Uros getting playing time for no clear reason.

Neither of those things are what’s being discussed. Aidoo had a good game. He has potential. The thing that I’ve commented on is whether or not to START Uros. Aidoo played 29 minutes. Uros played 12. Why does that trigger anybody? If Aidoo started and picked up 2 quick, cheap fouls he’d have played less than 20 minutes.
