Yep. We'd have won that game if only we started the QB that VolNation spent two weeks arguing about whether he's merely awful or actually the worst QB in UT history. Clearly that was the difference.
I take it you didn't watch the USC game in 2010?

There were already threads talking about how awful Simms was and how Dooley obviously needed to go to Worley. As soon as he did, there were threads whining about what an idiot Dooley was for throwing the 2015 season away. Basically it's nothing but howling inanity all the way around right now.
I did but that team had Lattimore and Garcia. This one didnt. Your point? USC scored 14 points sir and we scored 3. I think Mr. Simms could have produced more points.
You said it was dumb to expect a true freshman to come in against USC with only one week to prepare and outplay Simms. Yet that exact thing happened last year, except that the true freshman then had zero time to prepare. Both times Simms lost his job to the guy behind Door #1 because he couldn't even sort of get it done.
I can't believe there are people shrieking about how we would have beaten the Cocks if only we'd played the incomparable Matt Simms. People have no freaking memory at all. HE WAS HORRIBLE.
Why do people expect anybody to play all world against the #1 and #2 teams in the country? Nobody else has. Why should Simms have done better? He got dominated by the best 2 teams in the SEC.
Worley will be here for years. Simms is gone. Why would you rather go into next year with Tyler Bray as your starter and a true sophomore that's never taken one live snap as your main backup? Backup; as in ONE play away from starting. What don't you understand? If Simms was actually a good quarterback this would be a different conversation, but alas, see his previous body of work for confirmation on that.
So we are playing for next year now. Oh ok. I could have sworn we were trying to win games now.
It's been said time after time in this thread that the outcomes of the games this year would be no different with or without Simms. Why then would you not want to get Worley the experience in his place? Because it goes against the norm to not start your senior? Because it hurt Simms' feelings?
Because Simms gave us a better chance at beating USC not Worley. Worley didnt learn much in his time as a starting QB in 3 games. He didnt even get a TD in SEC play. I will say we cant fully know the impacts of those games until after next season. If Bray stays 4 years those 3 games become meaningless. If he stays 3 I could argue they were still meaningless. But we cant see the future which is why Simms should have played against USC.
I think you would fall on your knees and thank Dooley for this move if Bray gets rolled up on and has a knee taken out or some type of lasting injury in the first couple of games next year. I guess you would like to swap next year for 2015 also. Dooley doesn't have the luxury of putting things off. If he doesn't make progress, some other coach will be worrying about who is the QB in 2015. This isn't hard people. Dooley is trying to win games. That's what he is paid to do and he wants to continue in that job. This experience for Worley may pay big dividends next year or the year after.
