Butch confirms Dobbs was only QB available

I actually think there's a pretty good shot that Worley wins his job back in the spring. It's not that Dobbs has been bad; it's just that Worley is currently a better QB than Dobbs is.

As a freshman he has exceeded my expectations and has shown a LOT of upside!! Good job Dobbs. You have a bright future with the Vols.

I'm sure this has been said before - but wasn't this common knowledge?

R. Ferguson was in a boot but was reportedly 3rd string before Stephenson's injury - meaning Dobbs was 4th.

I for one am excited to see Dobbs get all these reps. He has shown good promise for a starting Freshman. He plays a little erratic and our receivers struggle with consistency, so that amplifies the passing woes. All things considered, Dobbs is performing about as expected, but his consistency with receivers and the ball security issues will be his biggest hurdles. The option-run attacks also haven't worked very well, but Dobbs' does seem to have a better knack than Worley for gaining positive yards with his feet after a blown up play.

If we make it to a bowl game, I think there will be competition for the QB spot. Worley has proven himself secure with the ball, which some coaches give a lot of merit to so I would not discount Worley being done for the season. We will see!

BTW anyone think Stephenson might not see the field again ever at UT?I have a hard time believing he sees the field again this year or ever in his career at UT, especially if Vandy and Kentucky are close games.

I thought so. Jones never said Ferguson could not play but all the media said he was in a boot and sleeve on his leg. Seemed certain to me he was unavailable.

you mean Peterman?? I think if Dobbs goes down, Peterman likely comes in

do you then think there is a chance that UT could be down to 2 QBs then ? i know it is a stretch but it could happen and thanks for the input

its possible. its also possible they could be down to one. possible for transfers is why they have tried so hard to get McClendon. they just can't get the Mom on board

I don't see Worley transferring. He could, but it would be a big step down if he wanted to play. I could see Petermen leaving if the 2 freshman pass him in the spring. I hope they all stay and battle it out. We haven't gone a full season without a QB getting injured in a while. We definitely need as many QBs as we can have.

LWS what do you think the maximum size of our recruiting class will be this year? Seems like there are a lot of contrasting opinions on the subject and would like to hear yours.

And I think, all things considered, Dobbs has done an excellent job thus far, having to play against the competition he has so far. I'm excited for this young man's future.

The competition wasnt passing the ball 20 yds over recievers heads all day. Fair job...not excellent. Good poise, nice velocity. Poor accuracy on all routes. Some good reads on the option but also some fails. Freshman play from...well a freshman.

With all the buzz in recruiting...I would say 34 easily and potentially as many as 36 (with a decommitt or two mixed in). I can think of 4-5 that we currently lead or at least in good shape with (Malone, Williams, Jackson, Mosley, Johnson). Garrett could easily be put in that group too.

Dobbs has not been the problem whatsoever since he went in against Bama. Its been our slow, always out of position defense and special teams coverage.

How do you blame a tired slow defence on Dobbs?

I think Dobbs is a good qb on his way to becomeing a very good qb.

Dobbs has thrown touchdowns that were droped.

Has Dobbs made mistakes, certainly he has even Manning does.

Tennessee is on the way back but lets bash the hell outa them till they do here on VN.

Lets down our players, call for new coaches till there #1

Thats what fans are for right?

Geez people enough with the crap already :banghead2:

maybe Freak should make an [anti VolNation] and move a few of you over and off this board.

Dude, ease up. Objectivity shouldnt move anyone off the board. Fact #1: we've been blown up in the last two games. We couldnt score on offense regardless of what the defense gave up. losing 35-31 you say, man the defense lost that game. Losing 35-3 you gotta say, where was the offense? Fact #2: There is no such thing as a "dropped touchdown". You only get the six points when the reciever is standing in the endzone possessing the ball. Speculation #1: Dobbs is on his way to being great? Same thing said about Ainge, Bray, and others as freshman. Didnt turn out. Pump the brakes. Dobbs could be 4th string again next year. Speculation #2: Vols on way back. Technically we could still finish 4-8 so lets hold off on that assessment too.

Nothing in this post mentioned firing coaches. If you can't handle objectivity take a break from message boards.

It's very simple. Our receivers are horrendous (besides North). No speed, no hands, no route running ability. Pig would barely see the field if he played for any decent SEC team. Dobbs is doing all he can considering nobody can get open or catch the ball. He hasn't been perfect but you can clearly see he has the mechanics to get the job done. We will be fine with him.

Your evaluation of talent is very sub par.

Can someone summarize the article? I don't have an account.

Why would CBJ suddenly make this known? So folks will know that the position is still open or is he planning on playing Riley or even (gulp) Peterman against Vandy?

Dude, you are a little over the top with this aren't you? Fact: Dobbs was 4th String QB. Fact: he would not be playing if the other 3 were healthy when Worley went down. This was the topic of this thread. Fact: Dobbs hasn't thrown a TD yet. Fact: We have been blown out since he has been our starter. I didn't down Dobbs, I stated facts. If you can't handle facts maybe you need to slow your roll. I hope Dobbs is the greatest QB to wear the orange and white. I truely do, but you can't cry about Worley and praise Dobbs when you look at the facts. Worley was the starter from the start of the season for a reason and that reason is because CBJ is our football coach and saw them in practice every day and I trust his judgement. Everyone wanted to down Worley and now everyone gives Dobbs a pass for playing worse. I don't get it. Take emotion out of this. P.S. I didn't realize that facts makes me "anti VolNation". Maybe Freak should make to an "Over Reaction" board so you can be moved over to that one.

and considering he hasn't had a lot of help.

Hmmm...well the WRs are also inexperienced and the D has suxed the last 3 games, but the run game has done well against all but Mizzou...and in the case of Mizzou we stopped running after getting in a deep hole.

So he DOES have a veteran Oline and two pretty good RBs.

There is criticism of the Oline that is persistent, but the number of sacks allowed and rush stats are both good. I have no doubt they have not lived up to their total potential, but I would give them a B-. Many seem to think they deserve an "F", but I don't think those saying that are very intelligent, frankly.

Fact. Dobbs was 2nd on depth chart before RF was injured.
