Butch Jones: ‘We are getting closer to naming a starting quarterback’

It has to be Worley to start the season opener against Utah State! After that game it would depend on his performance & game results. He just might have that short of a leash guys with both Dobbs & Peterman waiting their turn! I think Worley is a better game manager so he has to be the best choice to BEGIN the season.

If Worley gets the nod and is mediocre against Utah State in the first half, do we see Peterman or Dobbs any in the second half?

I know posters don't mean harm, or at least hope, but think the pics of down syndrome or special needs to make a silly point are in bad taste. Jmo. There are plenty of other normal idiots to make fun of.

Sorry but I saw that posted on here last season before the Florida game when Worley started out so bad....posted it come back after thinking it is wrong and here we go.

I hope Peterman gets as many snaps as possible, before we get to OK and SEC play. They will both be needed this season.

Worley is your starter. If he struggles then go to Dobbs. I wouldn't let Peterman play QB for my flag football team. Put him in the spotlight last year and he crapped himself. He's a practice player. Can't produce when the lights are on and it's gametime. Not saying its a easy thing to do in the SEC but the kid just doesn't have the marbles.

:eek:lol:

You do realize that it was only one start?

What did Dobbs do that was so impressive?

What team other than Kentucky did Dobbs beat?

Strongly disagree. One Freahman performance doesn't equal a career. Im sure you have had terrible days at work too but thankfully all of Volnation wasn't watching.

I think its Peterman, hes been most consistant and more solid than any of the other QBs. I think he has been practicing with a chip on his shoulder due to the criticism from last years Florida game. I hope he wins the job and kills it this year. Peterman bandwagon 100%.

Would love for Peterman to get his redemption but I'm pulling for Worley. This is his last chance and he's been thru alot.

It could just be the local media being way off base, but if anyone but Worley is named starter then I will be shocked.

Everything states that Worley takes the large majority of the 1st team reps. Why would you name a starter who hasn't even had an equal amount of reps in comparison to Worley?

Wouldn't he, you know, be taking as many or more reps than Worley if that were the case?

Peterman has risen to the top. He is showing the skills that made him so highly rated before the Florida debacle. Peterman is clearly the most accurate and consistent passer with the ability to hit the long ball - which could be lethal with these receivers. He also has the mobility to run Butch's scheme and is in great physical shape. He should start early against the softer opposition to get his bearings. If, as so many worry, Petermen were to choke, give it to Worley to be the game manager.

Many forget that Peterman was a top rated QB in HS. The Florida game was an anomaly in his history. He is quite possibly a diamond in the rough who is being overlooked. Hopefully, Butch will have the guts to give Peterman another chance - despite the political risk. He's earned it.

You would have to think since Worley has been working with the first team all the way through the scrimmage that he is the guy for game one. Like Butch says you have to perform every day so he needs to make it happen against Utah State if he wants to be the starter for Arkansas State.

Tennessee Passing vs. Florida 2013

C/ATT YDS AVG TD INT QBR

J. Worley 10/23 149 6.5 1 2 32.5
N. Peterman 4/11 5 0.5 0 2 0.7

With those stats it is kind of like the smartest kid with down syndrome....no offense :dunno:

Smartest kid in summer school, yes, I get it. But which listed performance above would you rather have?

Come on now, the QB play from the 2 halves were night and day. Most guys on here (not me included) routinely state that had Worley started and played the entire game that we would've beaten Florida last year. Same defense, same offensive weapons. Throw in Worley's QB play vs Georgia and SCar and it's a slam dunk in my mind.

Oh yeah, as far as no offense ....none taken. 😊

funny how alot of people think peterman is on top bc coach said he was making strides the other day after the scrimmage. Some players that are making strides are fourth string... Just because you make strides doesnt mean hes a SEC QB ready to play. He has the mopst accurate arm?????? Whhhhhhaaattt? Since when? Since youve seen clips of practice and a spring game?

Im behind him starting if hes ready... but the average fan is far from knowing if hes ready or not.
