Butch Jones: ‘We are getting closer to naming a starting quarterback’

yes. He's autistic on the low end of the spectrum. We are blessed to have him in our lives. Many parents have it much tougher. He's the one with me in my avi

That's tough and in my own way, I know what you're going through although its my understanding that you don't know what it's like to be a parent of an autistic child unless you are one. My 13 year old daughter has muscular dystrophy, but we are blessed like you that she has a mild form of it and is doing very well in most areas. Puts life in perspective. You have my respect and prayers, Sparty.

Exactly! We have a 13 year old son with special needs. He's autistic, ADHD, Torrette's,& Anxiety Disorder. Life around these parts are tough but the Good Lord above sees us through it all. Thank You Jesus!

I think this decision when it's made should be taken far more lightly than how some are already treating it in this thread. When your head coach says one week that all 3 of your QB's aren't impressing and then says the very next week that a starter will be named that people shouldn't get overly excited. There's a very good chance we see more than one starter this season and it won't be due to injury. I'd expect this battle to continue through the season regardless of who is named starter coming up.

So......the guy that Jones recruited who was so highly touted for being an aerospace engineering major with a great arm and huge athletic upside can't beat out the two leftover spread QB's from the Dooley regime?

Interesting.

He also recruited Peterman while he was at Cinci. Just didnt get him

And he tried to recruit over him last year with Dobbs.

I personally don't think any of these guys are going to end up being more than average at best.

It's just disappointing and a little concerning that the one with the highest upside is developing the least however.

AJ Johnson in wildcat all season, rotating with Von Pearson, Marquez North, and Pig Howard. :jawdrop:

Tried to recruit over him? Because he signed another QB? You always try to take a QB or 2 every year. Butch hadnt even had practice yet when he started recruiting.

Probably Justin Worley, if announcing this week. Melt downs and riots might start if named Nathan Peterman this week. If Peterman starts first game, probably announced at game time. Josh Dobbs from all reports is getting out played. I would like to see Worley finish his last season as starter, but want to see both Peterman and Dobbs play some too. Dobbs might want to red shirt, if not starting, since he lost his last year.

want my peewee game tape?
Why be a smart aleck about something like that?

Peterman WAS in fact a very, very solid prospect coming to UT. He was the highest rated QB in FL his Sr year in HS... that's talent.

So he hasn't had a great start to his career... So WHAT? The young guy hasn't quit. He didn't fold when 99% of those posting here would have... he didn't run away like Ferguson. He stuck it out and kept working.

I still tend to think Worley starts... but couldn't be more impressed than I am of Peterman even if he just solidly establishes himself as #2.

If Worley gets the nod and is mediocre against Utah State in the first half, do we see Peterman or Dobbs any in the second half?

I anticipate seeing the back up in the 2nd half vs USU... yes. Nothing to do with the starter being mediocre though.

My first college start was almost as bad as Petermans just in a different position. Made all conference the following year. Don't care if you believe it or not. I'm betting on Peterman.

Im rewatching the game vs UF last year. Its not as bad as I remember. The first fumble, it looked like Neal flailed his arms as soon as Peterman handed it off. The 2nd he was strip sacked from the blindside. Could put that on the Oline. The 3rd drive they moved the ball pretty well. One incompletion hit Josh Smith in the hands on a screen. Same drive a few plays later, he throws another nice ball in tight coverage, that Josh Smith goes up for and drops again. The next throw is tipped and intercepted. (You can clearly see that this is the play that he broke his hand on). When you rewatch it up to this point, Peterman looks like a good QB. You can see him change the protection a few times as well.

Once again, I find myself in agreement with you. I said on here 6 weeks ago that you shouldn't sleep on Peterman. I liked his attitude in an interview after a spring practice.

You can't count out someone with a good attitude, desire, work ethic, and some talent. He obviously showed some talent, or Butch would not have given him the start at Florida .

Now someone will jump in and say..."Butch gave him the start because Worley sucked sooooo bad." Well, he could have started any one of about 4 other qb's on the roster at the time.
