Butch Jones on freshman QBs

Freak, so many people on VN are or at least were so positive about Peterman, that I have no doubt the kid has potential. But for the life of me, I can't understand how so many expected him to walk on that field and perform well with so little past playing time, especially against that level of defensive play.

I was extremely disappointed that Peterman started. For the life of me I have idea why anyone would have thought Peterman would be better based on what little we have seen of him. A change would have been the unknown.

He gambled on Peterman in hopes of a spark to the offense. IMO

No coach worth his salt starts a guy because the legions of miserable are crying. jmo

Yeah, if was a gamble. He obviously did well in practice and it was worth a shot.

It was also very obvious that a fire was lot under Worley. He still had just struggles, but made some fearless throws and it paid off late in the game. We finally saw Worley grow a little bit in a very tough road game. I think he will build on today's experience.

Worley is the worst qb in tennessee history. Most people would expect peterman would be better but 4-11 for 5 yds and 2 pics is actually worse than the worst.

That's not called struggling against a good team. That's my daughter playing qb.

But I thought we knew more than the coaching staff......

If you voted against starting Peterman Id guess youd have gripe in this case.

The notion that Jones went with the fans request is rather funny.

At least it better be.

We won't see the freshman this year. They will redshirt. Next year, Riley Ferguson will be the backup, and maybe the starter, depending on how Worley does and grows.

I thought this too. I now believe Ferguson will start at some point unless Worley really starts to come around.

I don't know if he is the worst, but he is in his third year at UT and still not ready.

That may be true, but feeding an untested redshirt freshman to the wolves, or gators in this case, left us with a very predictable outcome.

I don't know how many we're high on him. Most I saw just wanted anyone but Worley.

(Redshirt) freshmen quarterbacks are going to struggle on the road in the SEC against defenses as good as Florida's more times than not; even those who have previously taken meaningful snaps.

You think Peterman started because of fan pressure?

You serious Clark?

Dunno if it was fan pressure but maybe some pressure if only the NEED to make "something" happen.....but it clearly wasn't because of his steller performance against AP.

And this is the end result of the grass is greener crowd.....and you'd think since 2008 someone would rethink the strategy.

No way he started Peterman because the fans wanted it. He isn't that dumb. I think he felt Peterman, as a better runner, gave yes a better chance to win. Florida lined up to stop any running game and we struggled offensively. I agreed with the change at the time.

Doesn't matter what Butch felt, saw, or knew about Peterman. My god, Peterman put on the most pathetic display in a generation of college QB starts. 5 yds.of passing in a half? Think about that between shots, dude. 5 yards...

Butch the fruit loop didn't pull him until he had four turnovers, and an arm injury which was reported by CBS. He shouldn't have been on the field for the 'slipped out of his hand' INT. Even worse, he should've taken himself out if he was hurt. Peterman is no bueno.

And Peterman as a runner--he never ran the ball. Funny thing is he should've. Every time he faked, he was open for ten yards.

Back to the bigger point; are you taking up for Butch, seriously?

I think Ferguson starts next year with Worley backing him up. Peterman and Dobbs may be transferring

that is the reason i don't think CBJ wants to burn a red shirt this year,if he doesn't use one,the other will stay to compete for the starting position and there isn't a QB being recruited this year,it could work out to where there are only 2 QBs next year

Worley needs to get his confidence up. Let him throw a lot during the South Alabama game and he might actually start to get it back. It would also help the young WR's get their confidence up as well.

40+ Attempts for him next week if you really want him to be a starting QB for this team. He has got to find his groove and balance as a passer or we are going to get murdered by Georgia. I think if we can find an identity on offense between now and then we might actually have a chance against Georgia but if Worley can't get a fire in his gut and become the leader of this team, we are screwed against the good teams left on our schedule.

I think today shows how far this program sunk under Coach Dooley's tenure. We simply don't have the personnel to line up and play with the upper tier teams in the conference. It is going to take two or three great recruiting years to make a difference.
