Butch Jones on freshman QBs

i think he would have started worley this week if it wasn't for the fans.

I doubt it. I don't think Coach Jones makes game decisions based upon what the fans say. This is his profession and livelihood. It's not a popularity contest.

Butch needs to play for this year and a bowl birth. It's not fair to anyone to ditch your upperclassmen unless someone beats them out.
What if the underclassman is considered equal? Do you sit the upperclassman and play for the present with a vision of the future or not?

I say yes.

Dobbs stays because of his major.

Exactly. He chose us in large part because we fit him academically. Add to that the fact that most in his major take more than for years to earn their degree and I think he's our QB least likely to transfer due to lack of playing time this season.

Ferguson starts vs S. Alabama... Jmo

Jones said the FR will be getting more reps this week and the best QB in practice will start. Is a perfect chance to let Peterman or Ferguson start and get ready for the gauntlet we have coming, atleast the next 3 are at home. We really need to beat GA or SCe, with the Cocks being the more likely of the 2. Worley had good moments yesterday but still made some bad reads and passes. Our receivers didnt help Nate early on either, who knows if Smith holds on to a few of those and Lane dropping a first down pass how it would have helped Nate with confidence. Yes he looked like a deer in headlights and most FR making their first start would have too. But he still didnt get much help and supposedly he throws better on the run and didnt get the chance to do that or run it. I definitely trust Coach Jones I just hope Nate or Riley get the nod this week, just cant imagine us getting better under Worley but I have been wrong before and will be again. Go Vols!

He didn't have to predict anything, all he had to do is look at the 3 big points we scored with Peterman against Austin Peay!!!!

Yea thats not a fair judgment on Nate. They didnt let him throw much or have the other first team Receivers in there with him. Not saying Nate is the best option but the kid had I know 4 catchable balls dropped yesterday, his first one again WK was dropped by Smith and didnt get to watch the AP game so I am not sure on that one. But Josh has times that he has bad cases of the dropsy. He is really gonna be a good WR as he gets more games under his belt but i know of atleast 6 dropped passes by him alone the last 3 games and he definitely isnt the only one but our receivers need to help the QB's out when they do get good passes. Really impressed by North, Pig and even moreso Croom this past week. Hopefully we get Johnson back soon and the TE's need to develop and we another option for the QB. Was really hoping Quinn was have started contributing by now, he is a huge target.

Loose talk....

I figure butch would start Worsley and if he did not play up to speed he would bring in Peterman. Boy was I wrong. I think if Worsley homes in 2nd Qtr. We win..I am just lost for words. Will stand with my Vols till bitter DND. I think everyone is frustrated seeking blame.blame is on prior coaches and UT officials..

CBJ doesn't coach by commitee. He gave Peterman a shot because sometimes player step up in games (murphy unfortunately) and sometimes they look much better in practice (Worley unfortunately).

I don't watch practices, but from what I can tell Peterman is neither the best at practice and he wasn't ready to play with the big boys. That doesn't mean he won't in the future but it wasn't a good sign either.

Coach played Peterman because he saw the Oregon game. Although Worley seemed more accurate he still doesn't play the option. Peterman.......was worse. Murphy ate our lunch on the option. Can we play 4 corners. We're getting destroyed on the edges.

If true, should be fired immediately. We need a coach that will do what it takes to win not just a coach that tries to appease the fans. That being said I think this post is a bunch of BS

If you think Worsley is cute, clever, or funny then you are wrong

Neither was the redshirt freshman.

Freak:

It's obvious to me after watching the Florida game that Worley is the only QB on the roster that can handle SEC Football, and while he's very limited, at the present time he's gives the Vols the best chance at winning a SEC game. Peterman and the true Freshman QB's may have better athletic skills than Worley, but none of them are ready to play against fast, physical SEC defenses. Just my two cents.

Your two cents are worth $39 and change.

After Saturdays performance I agree with gunner. Worley is our guy.. I Still say coaches need to get the ball more to pig. He is s playmaker. Go vols.
I have been a vol fan for 55 yrs .. I bleed orange. We are still couple yes out being ready to compete for an Sec title .hopefeully butch will get RR done.. I love his recruiting performance thus far..

Sticking with Worley is just spinning our wheels. We can go thru this learning curve this year just to repeat it with one of the freshman next year or we can get the learning curve over this year and have a three year starter left. Or heaven forbid find out we have no qb and recruit one in the coming off season. I'll take a bad season to build for next. I do not want to suffer this again next year for no reason.

My favorites are Worley and Ferg. so I dont care who starts next year as long as it is one of them and we are doing better

SIAP, but since Peterman is out with a broken thumb, it'll be interesting to see who Butch names as the backup/second-string QB. If Worley goes down in the next game or two, he may HAVE to pull a redshirt.

Not that much interesting about it IMO. CBJ made it very clear who would be the backup if one of them went down when the tree QBs that traveled this past weekend were Worley, Peterman, and Ferguson.

Heres my take on playing the true freshmen. Jones has 4 yrs to turn this thing around. Neither Worley nor Peterman are the long term solution. This season is a wash, Jones gets by no matter how many games we win. Play your young guys, find out who youre going with and next year they will game experience. There is no substitute for experience. Maybe we get a real stud qb next year. If Dobbs or Ferguson looks good, red shirt the new guy. But I just don't see the point in struggling with someone who is not the future. JMO.

I feel the same way lets go with more power running, red options, (with a real option), and play action with spliting the field in half with two reads or run the ball. Jmo with the freshmen qb
