Butch Jones

He makes 1.575 million a year. Dooley had SEC talent and Jones does not at Cinci. It should not be a shock we beat them even with DD. I like his offense and the way they get the playmakers the ball. Usually has a good run game and he wins at a good clip. We could do worse. IMO, his resume as a HC is just as good or better than Strong who would cost us at least a million dollars more.

No, god please no, if we've fallen this far then we truly are pathetic and deserve to be competing with Uk for the bottom of the SEC for the foreseeable future.
Competing with FCS schools for recruits and the likes of Purdue for head coaches, what has UT become.

This. Butch Jones is a good football coach. Look at his résumé and winning percentage. He turned Central Michigan around, and picked up where Brian Kelly left off at Cincinatti. "Winning with someone else's recruits" is not necessarily a bad thing. Not sure why it is looked down upon. What else is he supposed to do? Lose with someone else's recruits? The one foreseeable problem I see with a "Butch Jones" hire is his SEC ties or lack thereof. The SEC is a different animal. If he gets hired at UT, I am sure he will be way down the line of hires and he absolutely must hire a strong defensive minded staff with SEC ties. The guy has won at every place he's been. Urban Meyer was the same way and did the same exact thing. It worked out well for him.

In the 3 recruiting classes Brian Kelly signed, there were 0 5/4 star players and 13 3 stars. In the 4 recruiting classes Butch Jones signed, there were 0 5 star, 4 4 star, and 63 3 star players.

Also Brian Kelly was 19-16 at Central Michigan, and was 34-6 at Cincinnati.

Butch Jones was 27-13 at Central Michigan, and is 22-14 at Cincinnati.

The only point you just made is that Butch Jones signed better players than Brian Kelly during his tenure at the school. They both won. Stop intentionally handicapping the guy. Look at his body of work. That's all I am saying. Hopefully the search doesn't get to him, but if it does he'll definitely be an upgrade over the former HC we had hobbling around on the sidelines.

True. The point was that it's not like Butch has been winning with a ton of great talent brought in by Brian Kelly.

Nah, not an upgrade.

From Derek Dooley? Are you kidding me? Derek Dooley is the worst hire in the SEC since Ed Orgeron at Ole Miss. The guy was clueless both on the field and on the recruiting trail. He had a losing record at LATECH and now he has a losing record at UT. The guy is a loser. Period. I just think that so many of us Vol fans want a "home run" hire in the form of Bob Stoops, Jimbo Fisher, Jon Gruden, Gary Patterson, and Mile Gundy. The chance going into this search of us landing one of those guys was, and still is little to none. We have become a victim of our own unreasonable expectations. To the point where any mid major successful football coach is looked at as a failure of a hire. All of the big name guys you hear of were once mid major HCes or coordinators. Successful HCes come in all forms. This is not just in reference to Butch Jones, but any mid major guy Dave Hart brings in. Give the guy a chance and judge him on his body of work, something we'd hope he got judged by when Hart hired him in the first place.

He did not pick up where Brian Kelly left off. He took over a team that lost in the sugar bowl and went 4-8. He's not a bad coach, but he's not special at all.

This kind of thinking fascinates me. So Butch Jones, a guy who has won championships everywhere he's been isn't an upgrade over a guy who couldn't compete in the WAC and is statistically the worst coach in the history of UT football? On what would you base such a conclusion? Because you're too lazy to look up someone's coaching record or too dumb to understand it? I mean, I wonder how many of these "if he coaches for a mid major, he must not be any better than Dooley" types are the same ones who used their brilliant reasoning skills when Dooley was hired to say stuff like "He seemed smart in that there press conference, I bet he's going to win championships" while completely ignoring his own miserable record of losing.

Someone soon will get this guy and be better off than us....Cincy is already better...face it

Cincy is not better off, that is flat out ignorant. He hasn't even come close to doing what Brian Kelly did. Cincy is worse than they were.

Cincy is better than we are jagwag..my comment had nothing to do with Brian Kelly...you probably still think gruden is the possible hc huh?

Silly to argue apples and oranges. He is not an upgrade. Lateral at best. Do I want a homerun, hell yes. Butch Jones is a hire UK or Vandy would make.
