Butch looks down

I agree with this assessment. I think these guys assumed that the history, facilities and SEC membership would make for easy pickings. I can't help but wonder what else they underestimated. I'm just going to look at this as a continuation of the Dooley era so as to not go getting my hopes up.

so you want to be misrable

Some of you are out of touch with reality. Here are the facts:

- Program is in chaos
- University is in chaos
- Coach wasn't hired until early December and had (by my count) about 40 days to have any impact on recruiting at all when you account for the blackout period

Despite that:

- CBJ is a high energy guy who can sell anything
- We have a legacy and facilities that are second to none
- We have a fan base (that although has become a bit schitzo in recent years) is second to none when energized

I'm not making excuses for CBJ, but he played the cards he was dealt and I think he did about as well as anyone (and I mean anyone) could have done given the circumstances. All are entitled to their opinion, but first you have to accept the reality of where the program and the University (in general) stand today. If you start from that reality, you can see how tough of a job CBJ inherited. And will certainly appreciate these initial results more appropriately. Give it time folks.

If he "can sell anything", it would stand to reason he would have landed just one of the six big time recruits they were in on as recruiting wound down(Lawson, Bell, Bellamy, Boyd, Levenberry, Ford).

I am so sick of hearing about the Von Bell if Dooley bull crap. Dooley had nothing to do with it. If Dooley recruited the hell out of him the last year it would have made no difference because DOOLEY IS NO LONGER HERE. IMO I think he knew he more than likely was not coming here. Yes he strung us out but it is what it is. Hard to pull the big time recruits till you can show some type of stability and we are as far from that as there is right now. I do think we did ok with the time that CBJ had and now let's sit back and watch this all play out and if he can coach them up. That is what he is paid 3 million dollars to do. If he does it then we can be the Ole Miss next yer during signing day. The sky is not falling. It fell last year, so give him a D@#$ chance to fix it.

I don't think there was any underestimating. Jones hired those willing to work for him and we hired acoac who has never had to recruit at any sort of level. His history of recruiting doesn't exist. We didn't know going in whether he could recruit. Now, we have a much better idea. I liked not knowing better than the reality.

So you now know he can't recruit after he had a month to put a class together?
Ridiculous. First of all, you have always said recruiting rankings mean squat, yet now you make your judgement off of them.
And if he reels in a top 10 class next year, you will say it doesn't matter.

It's a beautiful hilarious circlejerk of stupidity, isn't it?

Seriously what is the minimum age limit to post in this forum? I wouldn't be surprised if half of you whiny spoon fed little b*tches were about 12 years old. God there should be a license required to post on the internet.

If he is down over our recruiting, then he too had unrealistic expectations. Nothing in the SEC is going to be easy for him or any other coach.

if Dooley was still the coach this class would have been ranked in the 40's

This can't be overlooked but I was feeling optimistic about Bell and Levenberry and missing those hurt because they would probably be early contributors in positions of need.

Here is my issue.....with recruiting.....the staff......Dooley and Sal stole a recruit last year from CBJ....we let go of HINSAW? Who was an excellent recruiter....never able to secure Tee Martin....used Cincy staff....He can sell UT well....but SEC recruiting requires the entire staff....honeymoon year is over, not a lot room for slippage...better get on a dramatic learning curve.....or we will be talking same ole same ole of near misses.....the Martin thing may have had a greater impact than we know......

He was just on ESPNU and looked really down. I think he is upset with the signing class outcome. I believe the guy worked his ass off to sign us a great class and got shafted by several recruits. Feel bad for him but he needs to go to work and win some ball games this year before the recruits start rolling in...keep your head up coach!

I see the point you are making but my take is if they are not 100% UT Vol I am glad they chose to go somewhere else to play. I would never say he looked down, that's like a shot at the class we did manage to bring in imo.

I think Lawson and Bellamy played us too...
The way the Lawson family handled their recruitment was excellent. I wish Carl Lawson well except when UT plays them (next year).

Bellamy is entitled to handle his recruitment any way he wishes. I do believe he that he had no intention of attending UT. I find it amusing that UGA came a crawling late.

Levenberry will regret going to FSU. UT needed him and he could have been a big part of the defense. FSU wanted him. There is a big difference between a need and a want.

You're out of your mind. I don't give a crap about rankings. We had needs and addressed almost none of them.

Next year will only matter if it makes our team better. We didn't make it better yesterday.

Agreed. One group is relying on pure blind and unsupportable hope and the other has evidence.

"Evidence" of what? Of speculation concerning just signed 18-year-olds who have never stepped on a college field? That, sir, is not evidence, either.
