I'm thinking the last thing CBJ is going to do is chance offending a regional HS coach.

But, he very well might have offered this rationale to Hurd's coach:
"Talent-wise, Hurd is NFL bound. He's now got his ticket punched to go to the next level. The only things that can derail his career during his HS senior year are an injury or bad grades. Coach, if you bench him, you can do a lot to secure that he continues down that road on time.

The NFL is now counting hits on running backs, so the best we can do for his future is to give him enough opportunities to prove himself draft-worthy while limiting those hits which typically limit careers and signing bonuses. I don't see him playing 4 years in the SEC. So let's get him in the barn with a minimum of wear & tear."

To me, that would make more sense as the kernel of truth to the story.

I would hope that Butch would have enough class to not have done that.

People said TN high school coaches were mad, because Dooley didn't stroke their egos. I wonder what they would think of our coach telling them to sit players.

i've thought all along that it was pretty convenient.. That he had this season ending i jury in the first game of the season.. I wondered if he wasn't asked to once he got that fifth star (which happened a week before that game).. Him not playing all season kept other coaches off his back, and allowed him not to get a serious injury.. And spend alot of time on tennessee's campus... Just my 2¢

I get the feeling that Butch checks his ego at the door when talks to HS coaches. The conversation probably started with Butch saying, "Coach, what do you think about his shoulder injury? And just to be clear, his scholarship is not in jeopardy."

You think coaches stopped recruiting him after that game? And he had a injury to pull a Gruden-like smokescreen? HAHAHAHAHA

For those who are concerned about Hurd's shoulder or have issues with him shutting his Senior season down I have a little info that I would like to pass along...

1)The shoulder was not as bad as people made it seem. It needed work but it was not the reason he shut his season down

2)He shut his season down because Butch Jones personally called his HS coach and told him "he's done for the season and will not be taking any other snaps. Please do not ask him to play as he will not be."

This info comes from someone as about as close to Hurd as you can get.

The funny thing of this story, and the reason I am relaying it, is because the guy who told me while he stood next to me said it with such inflection that it was almost like "Butch is the man."

I personally think Hurd is going to shock a lot of people his freshman year and be a much bigger impact than some are even thinking.

Butch didn't have to... he just waved his hand over Hurd's shoulder and it was fixed.

Want a sure fire way to get on the good side of a high school coach? Call him up and order him to rest a star player. I mean, it's not like the guy has a job to do so he can feed his family.

Since we're making up silly stories and such, I don't feel so bad about taking this whole thing off topic ...

Did you see the pic of Hurd and Manning? Hurd's just as tall as Peyton, we should move him to PF.

Did this info come from a prominent lawyer?
lol, yeah, I understood the guy's law firm represented Gruden during his contract signing for his job on The Hill ... I swear I saw him sign it and the ink was orange!
