“Lincoln has really transformed our offense,” says Bob Stoops, Oklahoma's head coach.
When Stoops fired offensive coordinator Josh Heupel after the 2014 season, he looked outside for an offensive coordinator for the first time in his 17 seasons in Norman. Stoops has described the decision as wrenching, given Heupel’s status as a former OU All-American, but necessary given the Sooners’ struggles during an 8-5 season, and with the wide-open offensive style that has swept the Big 12 Conference in recent seasons.
Heupel remained offensive coordinator, but was no longer calling the plays. Not his plays, anyway. He was calling Bob Stoops’ plays.
Following OU’s Russell Athletic Bowl loss to Clemson, he was fired and none too soon. It wasn’t that the Sooner offense lacked consistency, but that it lacked any conceivable identity that might have led to consistency.
It is against that backdrop so many Sooner fans and so many who cover OU are utterly gobsmacked by Heupel’s hiring as Tennessee’s new football coach.
It’s unbelievable how the former Heisman Trophy runner-up continues to fail forward.
This just isn’t trueNo, you wouldn’t. We say these things as biased Tennessee fans, and I am frustrated this is happening as well, but no USC recruit is going to care about the Bru McCoy situation. It doesn’t even register on their radar.
I will completely agree with you. Every single recruit will commit with the assumption they will play there for 3 or 4 years. No recruit goes to a school thinking about when they transfer and how will the school handle it.
Pretty much this.
But, it’s also the fact that any current recruit will have not used their transfer yet, so why would a recruit considering USC be scared to go there when they have a completely unblockable transfer available to them. Bru’s situation is unique, and no high school kid is going to think about him when Lincoln comes calling.
It’s the fact that USC could have easily resolved this situation weeks ago but refuses to sign to make him eligible.
When you start messing with a kid’s future due to selfish reasons, that’s when the law should be involved.
What they’re doing is technically a crime.

bingo
Theyre actively trying to screw over a kid that is long gone. Only an idiot would think some recruits and their parents wouldn't care about this story.
Again, nowhere did I say or defend what USC is doing. This board is frustrated, rightfully so. But, we're all Tennessee fans on this board. You talk to the average recruit or person about this situation and it likely doesn't even register on their list of concerns about USC. I could maybe be convinced that transfers in the portal might take a second look at USC, but any high school recruit being courted by USC is not going to care about Bru McCoy because it is not the same situation they would face if they want to transfer. It's just not the same!
