No, you wouldn’t. We say these things as biased Tennessee fans, and I am frustrated this is happening as well, but no USC recruit is going to care about the Bru McCoy situation. It doesn’t even register on their radar.
Lol exactly. It's not even logical.

If a player is already at USC, then obviously they'd get the one-time exception.

This argument is only good for a player currently transferring to USC AND is actually considering a 2nd transfer coming up. Incredibly rare.

So I think this is all awesome this isn’t a big conspiracy or anything related back to Heupel and Lincoln or anything.

USC thinks Bru can get eligible through the ncaa. They’d rather him do that then signing an NPO and adding ammunition to lawsuits for their handling of Bru/him not being afforded the opportunity to continue his career at USC. Their lawyers have clearly advised them to have the ncaa handle it to limit liability. If the ncaa turns this down then it’s back to usc as the only option for eligibility (which again I doubt happens but)

Second recruits and their parents aren’t thinking their kids are going to transfer multiple times or be involved in (wrongful) domestic assault allegations. This is a weirdly complex situation and in general people don’t appropriately weight things going wrong as much as they do right.
100%

Said this on 247 the other day, but once you look at the form and what they are signing off on...it matches up all too well to Bru's lawsuit. They'd be putting in writing (and attesting to the facts per bylaw 10.1) the very things Bru would sue them over.

As $hitty as it is...they're just legally protecting themselves while (supposedly) supporting his case via the NCAA Waiver rebuttal process. But...they better hope like heck he gets approved or they'll get it 10x worse.

I think the seed planted in recruits' minds isn't exclusively about their future transfer. It tells them that USC is shady and doesn't always have the player's best interest in mind. If they are willing to hurt a player trying to transfer, what else are they willing to allow happen to players? How can you trust them after knowing they're willing to screw over players?

The thing that makes me feel slightly better about all this is that Bru has been able to practice with the team, instead of the old way when these guys had to sit out until the NCAA got around to it. He’s going to be full speed when he gets the green light, and as I’ve said many times now about other aspects of this offense: good luck other teams.
