Obviously the hype has cooled with him. However, he will be a name to watch in the future. A lot of “if’s” but a lot of potential.

If he could only see the field and get rid of the ball in less than 5 seconds ,then he might turn out to be a fairly decent QB.Until that time that he demonstrates those characteristics during a game against SEC Competition then I am still skeptical about his ability to start and win at Tennessee or any other college team.

Chryst was worse with a better team as a JR than JG as a freshman. He is arriving in the fall. JG has already established himself. I doubt Chryst starts.

Shrout is already being recruited over. He is not really a great prospect either. There is a reason he was ranked so low. He attended a ton of camps and had exposure. He had a mediocre season though. Scouts aren't high on him like people in this thread are acting.

He won't pass up a more talented returning starter next year. By the time JG leaves we will have a 4 or 5 star heir apparent. Shrout won't play most likely.

Also several people have speculated if he will start this year. Lmao.

and it certainly won't mean this staff wont' continue to go out and recruit the next best thing at QB either.

these qb debates are sooooo subjective, absent any real production.

and fact is, none of the qb's we have on roster right now, have much of that, and certainly not enough to say one way or the other, given all the changes that have been made w/coaches, personnel and scheme.

The NFL guy was Simms who the family has been paying thousands of dollars for training.

Sam Darnold didn't camp at all. Played linebacker more than qb. He was from the same region. Somehow with less exposure and the same amount of starting time he wa more more highly touted.

Scouts have seen plenty of Shrout. They were aware of him before this season. That is when he went to the camp everyone hypes up. Still ended up a three star in the 600s.

He was a body for us to have once of emergency. If he somehow magically gets better then great. He isn't the qb of the future though.

Bailey or someone like him will be the starter after JG.

Calls out others for making way too early definitive statements. Follows up with way too early definitive statements. Maybe he never pans out but it's not like we stole him from valdosta state. He was the only qb Cal was gonna take and they had to scramble to replace him. So some p5 evaluators were certainly high on him. He only played 1 year right? He seems to have a good arm and natural talent that potentially could be developed. I think he redshirts and who knows after that. But he certainly has potential. I agree with you on jg proving himself and being the starter until he graduates but like jg, I'm not ready to write this kid off. Especially when he's not even on campus yet.
