'18 CA QB JT Shrout (UT signee)

So the one camp out of dozens. I got ya. Like I said he has been camping since ninth grade. Of course he looks good in shorts. His parents have literally paid thousands for qb coaching. He has been to more camps than a ton of QBs that are ranked higher.

One camp is all y'all are hanging your hat on. His game play and performance in other camps lead to him being ranked in the 600s and Cal as the only other P5 offer.

How do you know he's been camping since 9th grade and what his parents spent. He missed most of soph and Jr years with a broken leg. Was he camping then. Are you talking about like camping in a tent? His he bad at building fires? Provide evidence of all these camps he performed poorly at.

Most of who? They never said those words. He had one good camp of dozens he has attended. Those same scouts still ranked him in the 600s. The praise he received is so overblown. It's all literally from one camp and from people he paid.

it's no more overblown than some of the talk about some other QB's that are currently on roster.

you get Bartel and Rosenfels talking about Shrout here, and Whitfield talking about JG somewhere else.

and i'm sure if i looked, i could find something glowing about Chryst if i wanted to.

what does it matter, really? so the upside is a kid that has played 1 year of hs ball, who will likely RS his fr year, maybe has the potential to be an NFL QB....or....he's a back up that didn't cost us a thing, and at the very least provided depth at a time we need it.

zero risk, high reward prospect. i'm failing to see the downside. so why not talk about what his upside could be???? doesn't mean that JG or Chryst still won't beat him out, if either is as good as some think they are.

So, what you are telling me is it is not possible for a kid to become a better player the more he camps and plays the game of football?

With that theory I guess we better give up on JG right now... Heck if QBs can't get better by receiving more and more training....

Also, your point earlier on how only one person who was paid was the reason JT was getting praise was just botched. Also at that camp were many prospects to include the 5* that Georgia landed and JT outperformed him in that camp. So....

What else you got for me to dissect?

He camped at least 24 times? That's cool.

He got an offer from Cal with only one start as a soph where he broke his leg. They offered him before his senior season. The only season he played. So I guess he did pretty good at whatever he was doing.

I had this discussion before and posted links. I'm not doing it again. He has been camping for years and one time got praise. Woo hoo.

Scouts and coaches have seen him a million times. His offers and ranking show what is really thought about him.

Show me one time he was praised beyond this one camp. Anyone can get hot for a day or two.

You show me some camps he went to and I'll find some praise from said camps. If you posted links before it shouldn't be hard for you to find them.

How about you provide us evidence? Also, you said he was evaluated this camp and that the scouts were paid and still gave him low ratings.... When I specifically pointed out it was actually NFL coaches and former NFL QBs who were praising his abilities during this camp.

Also, I have linked a 247 article about Shrout before Tennessee was ever a factor. You might want to read it. Because it tells his story and also promotes how good of a QB he was/is/could be.

So your article says he has been seen at a ton of events. :thud::crazy:

Still a low ranking and unimpressive offers.

When it's the only one we signed. I stand behind him.

I'll support him if he plays. I don't think he will. If he does he will be the "worst" prospect that has started at qb for us going by ranking and high school stats.

I like the QBs we are recuiting to come in and pass him up. He won't play this year or next unless there is an injury epidemic.

That has nothing to do with it.

Shrout is underwhelming. When have we ever gotten excited over a 3 star top 600 something qb?

The scouts talking him up and seeing him throw is enough to hype me up about him. At least to the point of not completely writing him off the moment he committed. It's weird to down a player before he has taken a single practice snap.

I like Harrison Bailey and several other white QBs. Shrout is underwhelming. When have we ever gotten excited over a 3 star top 600 something qb?

Have you even watched tape of him throwing? The kid is fundamentally sound in his techniques. The only thing he has to work on is timing (for college receivers/defenses) and decision making. Everything else is already there.

It said he had several impressive workouts and looked good in 7v7. Where does workout turn into event?

He was seen at 7v7 events.
They weren't talking about watching him at his school practicing. Lmao.

He had a good camp. Anyone can look good for one weekend in shorts. Especially someone who has been getting professional coaching for years.

I like people that perform. His game play and other camp performances left him ranked in the 600s.

He threw 25 ints.
51%.
Around 6 ypa.

That doesn't inspire confidence in his abilities. He could be good. Not likely based on the data.

So he had 1 good camp and looked good when attending 7v7 events.

Sounds like he was noticed more than 1 time. The kid is a Vol, I don't understand what your problem with the guy is.

And what does Cal know about QB's?

A Cal offer at QB is practically a golden ticket to the NFL. They have had more than their fair share of success with QB's.

You can nitpick rankings and lack of exposure all day, every day....

His film shows a lot talent to the unbiased eye. There are tons of things that go into successfully playing the QB position in college that aren't seen in rankings or film. He has a good arm, good feet, very quick release and very good athleticism....those are viewable to all! However, there are some questionable stats and unknown things like leadership, grit, smarts and team oriented...

But writing someone off because of 1 yrs worth of HS football(stats and ratings)....is not very bright!
