'18 CA QB JT Shrout (UT signee)

So he had 1 good camp and looked good when attending 7v7 events.

Sounds like he was noticed more than 1 time. The kid is a Vol, I don't understand what your problem with the guy is.

Making my point. He had a ton of exposure. Best offer was Cal. Ranked in the 6s.

You can nitpick rankings and lack of exposure all day, every day....

His film shows a lot talent to the unbiased eye. There are tons of things that go into successfully playing the QB position in college that aren't seen in rankings or film. He has a good arm, good feet, very quick release and very good athleticism....those are viewable to all! However, there are some questionable stats and unknown things like leadership, grit, smarts and team oriented...

But writing someone off because of 1 yrs worth of HS football(stats and ratings)....is not very bright!

Not writing him off completely. It's not likely he starts or has sucess here though.

Have you even watched tape of him throwing? The kid is fundamentally sound in his techniques. The only thing he has to work on is timing (for college receivers/defenses) and decision making. Everything else is already there.

He should be sound when he has been getting professional coaching for years. Can he perform well in game? So far not really.

As sound as he is why not more offers or a better ranking? Players with less exposure and experience have been more highly touted.

He had a ton of exposure because he attended 7v7s? Lol those were probably all in California how is that a ton of exposure?

I attended 7v7s when I played football, but it was basically scrimmaging other HSs in the dead periods to evaluate the offense. Doesn't mean I had a lot of exposure lol.... Neither does it for him.

How do you get less experience than 1 season?

Not writing him off completely?! That's not true!

What's that sliver that keeps you from doing that?!

He was seen at 7v7 events.
They weren't talking about watching him at his school practicing. Lmao.

He had a good camp. Anyone can look good for one weekend in shorts. Especially someone who has been getting professional coaching for years.

I like people that perform. His game play and other camp performances left him ranked in the 600s.

He threw 25 ints.
51%.
Around 6 ypa.

That doesn't inspire confidence in his abilities. He could be good. Not likely based on the data.

It's great to have a know it all on VN. I can just read you and put all others on ignore!!!

That has nothing to do with it.

I like Harrison Bailey and several other white QBs. Shrout is underwhelming. When have we ever gotten excited over a 3 star top 600 something qb?

I get why you’re skeptical about the kid. What I don’t get is why you’re so emotionally invested in crapping on him. He’s a Vol. Is it not possible that an 18 year old hasn’t reached the peak of his ability yet?

You may turn out to be right about him. I guess if you are, you can come back on here in a few years and.....gloat?

He doesnt sound emotional, just doesnt believe in the kid. I do.

Again. Show where he's had professional training and camped a lot.

The ones being emotional are the guys acting like I slapped their kid because I don't think the 600 and something ranked qb that only completed 51% with 25 ints won't be a starter here.

It's illogical to think that he will come in and be a starter based on the data.

When has a qb ranked that low with those terrible stats become a SEC level qb? Name one. Either the kid is ranked high or he put up great stats but was overlooked for some reason. I have never seen a qb with the combination of bad stats and bad ranking be successful. It would be a first.

Isn't Shrout the lowest ranked qb we have signed in the rankings era? I can't remember one.

Yes he received some praise. Dormady, JG, Dobbs, Worley, Chryst, Bray, Ainge, Crompton, Simms, RF, Peterman etc all got more though. I don't think having a few people saying that you looked good in one camp proves someone can be an SEC qb. Offers, stats, rankings show me much more. He lacks in all three areas.

Won’t need that long. Why he’s starting now. :wink2:

Btw, K-town hit the Chryst thread and crapped on him (again) too.

Poor Shrout and Chryst failing the "eye test"... at birth 😂

Gtfoh with that. Y'all might judge on race not me. The same posters don't like any non white qb we recuiting or that plays here. Then they gush over players like Chryst, Dormady, Worley, McBride, and Shrout who have worse stats and less talent than the qb they are competing against that I like better. It's funny they never get accused of anything even though they are hyoing the worse player.

I judge on fact.

Dobbs was better than Worley and Dormady. JG is better than Dormady and McBride. He had a better year last year than Chryst and Shrout.

Those are facts.

If y'all want to get excited over the 600 something ranked player that had a bad year ok. Get excited for anyone we sign then. I guess performance, offers, and rankings don't matter.

I’m excited that we have a QB coach that knows how to scout and develop quarterbacks. There are so many examples of low ranked QB’s that end up being awesome that they’re hard to count. Mayfield, Josh Allen, and Wentz come to mind immediately. He has intangibles and his issues can be fixed through good coaching. Why is that hard to understand? NFL scouts praised him as well. Nobody is saying he’s Peyton. But he could end up being very good. We’ll have to see won’t we?

Huh? He was ranked a top 15 QB last year out of high school by Rivals. He wasn’t a top rated guy but he wasn’t a scrub either like the picture you’re attempting to paint
